Disregard, I figured it out.

I have the Xenons and the selection for adaptive headlights hence the "A" on the stalk I was talking about. This is my 3rd Mini and I have had several Bimmers before so I am familiar with adaptive headlights. I should have a fault which makes me think if the position on the stalk is telling the adaptive function to operate. If it was talking to the headlights and they didin't work, I would get a fault, which I am not.

the A is for Auto headlights on, not adaptive. There is no switch for the adaptive headlight function.

IIRC they do need to be on auto and not just on to function. But people without adaptive will still have an A on the stalk

After reading the configurator on Mini.com, I do not have adaptive headlights due to the fact I have the black headlight housings. Go figure. So disregard my thread. Thanks

Glad to see the dealer did not spot it when they 'diagnosed' when you thought they were broken...

You think they would have said something when I took it to them. It's pretty obvious with the black housings.

That's weird, you actually can have both adaptive and black housing headlights (I got them).

You can now, but you couldn't last year. When I ordered my CM, it was either but not both.
