Dealer quoted me $307 to install NM Short Shifter???

I recently purchased an NM Short Shifter and also the shifter cover box, which came to $158 with shipping. I have to bring my R60S in for service next week (regular oil change etc.) and asked my dealer how much would it be to install the short shifter and he told me to plan for $307. That brings the total to $465...for a short shifter.

The dealer indicated the $307 quote is based on how much MINI would pay the dealer to service the shifter cables. I'm not a mechanic and if I had some help I would attempt to do it myself. What are your thoughts on this because for that amount of money I'm thinking I'll return the short shifter, save my $$ and put it toward a DP or FMIC. Have any of you had your dealer install a short shifter? How much did it run you because $307 seems very exaggerated to me. Thx.

Hey MLH,

I say save your $307. Spend $20 on Beer. $20 on Pizza. Invite a friend over, and turn a few wrenches. It is a very simple process. It should take 1-2 Hours. You only need jack stands and a few tools. ALSO! Make sure to use Locktite on the set-screw!

A simple Saturday morning job, and you experience the satisfaction of doing the job yourself, with $267 left in your pocket, a full belly, and a good buzz....

Helix13, you have a deal, but you'll have to pay for travel, beer and pizza.
