So simple question, and please excuse if this is in the wrong forum. First i'd like to say I love my Mini. I bought a Countryman S 2015 manual and didn't opt in for the HK radio system. So i suppose its the most basic of radio options they offer ? For some reason i don't even have access to Sirius satellite option in the when changing sources/modes. Called the dealer they told me they'ed have to flash something to the radio and it would cost $600+ ?? Anyone else experience this ? Is this something i can do with the NCS Expert app ? Lastly how has everyone else experience been upgrading this particular radio system/speakers. A local shop quoted me like 2k for new head unit, speakers/amp and 1 sub.
thank you all this is an awesome community from everything i've read here. Learning a lot.
attached is a pic of my Mini (un-named still) any suggestions welcome
Sirius radio is an option to the factory radio. I think I paid $600 or so for it on my. 2015 CM with no HK stereo. I assume it would need a receiver under the dash to get the signal... Hence the cost.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought I remembered reading something about how all CMs after a certain year had the hardware builtin.
I think there was a VIN website checker online somewhere that lists out all your specs and the hardware should be found pre installed.
That being said, I bought a 2014 S auto, without the HK system and got the siriusXM "installed". Mine already had the hardware in it, so all the dealer had to do was activated it and flashed my car. When that was done, I saw the Sirius XM option in my tuner.
What I was told was that yeah, its kinda expensive, but they have to pay a license to Sirius, and in exchange for that high amount, the installation includes 1 year of XM service.
My dealer quoted me about 525 to do the sirius flash, which comes with 1 year service. I'm gonna do it, eventually. I like having it incorporated into the factory radio settings.
