Fuel Pressure

Hi All -

I think my 2011 base Countryman with 215K miles is getting a weak fuel pump. Most of the time, it kicks off fine and runs fine, but a couple of times after it set over night and got cold, it started very rough and was tough to smooth out.

I have a couple of OBD readers, etc, but can't seem to find anything related to fuel pressure. Is there a diagnostic code related to low fuel pressure? Or a sensor to look at?

I'm leaning towards replacing the fuel pump anyway, since I've been through that with several other vehicles, but it would be nice to have verification through OBD, if possible.

Thanks for any information,
Howard

I've been having a similar issue. When I start my car in the morning or after work (12 hours later) it will start and then stall. If I press the accelerator after starting and hold it at about 1500 RPM's until the RPM's start climbing it won't stall. I have no problems after that. Also, my fuel fuel gauge is acting really weird and is almost always wrong. I just replaced spark plugs 10K miles ago. I'm thinking its the HPFP I've heard so much about.

Is your countryman an S? I know the S models have issues with the high pressure fuel pumps on the back of the motor.

ALL MINI's have issues with their HPFP..... I'm not positive about this but I understood that MINI offered an extended warranty on this item in the USA.

Base model is N16 engine, no HPFP as far as I know. Fuel pump in gas tank could have issues.

The HPFP is covered by MINI?

I was responding to the OP who has a base CM. Gets a bit confusing when people pile onto another thread and nobody knows exactly who to respond to. MINI extended additional coverage to the HPFP for many cars for 10 years or a certain mileage, which as I recall was 120K, don't quote me on that number.

I apologize. I didn't mean to hijack the thread like I did.

ha ha. Thanks, Minnie. Yeah, the original thread sort of got derailed. No, mine is a base model.

And with all the internet chatter about HPFPs, that is partly why I wanted to verify my pressure. I know the S models have a lot of problems, but since mine doesn’t have a hpfp, I wasnt sure if other problems could cause my symptoms.

So there isn’t a way to read fuel pressure or pump readings from the ODB port??

Thanks again,
Howard

Probably a Schwaben/Foxwell or similar OBD scanner can read the data. Never tried it however. I'd search the Foxwell site and see if it is mentioned.
