Replace F60 armrest charger with tray
Greetings!
I have a 2018 F60 JCW All4. It came with the console phone charger. There are two problems with this:
1. It doesn't accommodate larger phones. I already went down the path of ordering a new shelf bracket from Shapeways, installed it, and it broke 2 days later.
2. The phone overheats, which is a known issue.
At this point, I just want to remove the charging pad insert and convert the area to a storage bin. To do this correctly though, I need to take out the charging insert and replace it with a storage tray insert. So my question is this: Has anyone else done this? Can it be retrofitted without having to buy a whole new console? It seems like an easy fix if I could buy the right part to insert. Searched online and couldn't find anything. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks!

Yes it can be done. I placed my phone cradle with the mini wireless charging tray.
If you remove the rear panel (below the armrest and between the rear seats - mine had the cigarette lighter in the panel) there are two bolts - remove these and the whole armrest can be removed (pull upwards) - disconnect the wires for the charging unit, and the armrest is now free to work on.
You can then remove the charging unit from the armrest and replace it with the blanking part - you would need to check realoem or similar for the the part number.
It was a few years ago when I did this, so can't remember the details, but a simple but fiddly job.

I'm looking to do the exact same change to my 2018 F60. The wireless charging is of no use to me and I'd love to get any more storage room. @DrewMini were you able to get the part number? I looked on RealOEM and I think the part number is 51169333425 but I'd love to confirm before ordering. Looks like once I remove the charging unit I would just use this cover from what I can tell. Thanks for any info.

@Sivaru No, it's not as simple as just removing the charging module like I was hoping. I removed the armrest (which is easy) and then tried to remove the charging module. The armrest with the charging module is basically one unit and the only way to remove the charging module is to destroy it and the inside of the armrest will have large holes where it used to be. Once I realized the charging module can't simply be removed I ordered a new armrest (part number 51-16-9-332-831) which includes the inside mat and is easy to install.
You may want to see if someone would want to buy or trade with you for your charging armrest. I damaged mine trying to remove the charger and I don't think anyone would want it now.
