So my MINI came with runflat tires? Is there any technical/mechanical/etc reason I have to replace with Runflat tires?
I mean I have a spare...

I put different wheels and tires on mine. I keep an OEM wheel with Runflat as my spare. There's not a technical/mechanical reason to have Runflats. Is there an Insurance reason? You'd have to ask your insurance company about that...
I cleaned up the OEM run-flat wheel/tire, put it face-down on some towels in the back, and hold it to one side with a cargo net, and use the inner part of the wheel to hold groceries or whatever else I have. I also put a plastic milk crate on the opposite side, which helps to wedge it into place back there. Oh, I don't have to worry about the wheel clearing my JCW brakes since it's an OEM wheel as the spare.
I have a jack with a modified connection to fit the jack points on the car, a pump, and some plugs that can be used if I need them...keep all of this stuff under the false-floor in the back.
