Factory UV protection; windshieid UVA UVB, rest UVB only
Here is MINI's response to my UV protection question.. I asked about the F60, answer may or may not reflect other models.
Hi CARL,
Thanks for contacting MINI regarding your 2024 MINI Cooper S ALL4 Countryman US. We understand you have specific questions regarding the UV protection on our MINI vehicles.
The windshield is laminated glass at the “AS1” level, which means it meets a set of requirements for clarity and light transmission to ensure forward visibility. It should block nearly all UV-A and UV-B light.
The side windows and rear window are “AS2” tempered glass, meeting a different set of metrics regarding light transparency and clarity. It should block nearly all UV-B light.
The sunroof is tempered glass at the “AS3” level. We consider it “privacy glass” with respect to the tint, and it has roughly 55% visible light transmission. It should block nearly all UV-B light.
The perforated sunshade physically blocks 95% of incoming light. So, with the sunroof closed and the sunshade closed, there should be a significant amount of incoming light blocked.
We hope you find this information helpful. As discussed previously, if you have specific concerns regarding your vehicle, we recommend contacting the service team at your local MINI dealer. MINI Motoring Relations relies solely on the service teams at our authorized MINI dealers to assist our customers with maintaining, diagnosing, and repairing vehicles. They would be in the best position to assist you further.
Should you need to contact MINI Motoring Relations again, you can reach us at 1.866.ASK.MINI (275-6464) Monday through Thursday from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. ET and Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. ET.
