Interior/Exterior How to remove R56 hood scoop
#2
A lot of people will tell you to pull straight up and/or yank...good idea if you want to take a risk of breaking a mounting post. So, if it means anything I'll tell you how I removed mine in under 2 minutes to install a SS scoop insert, with zero damage...
Hopefully you have access to a nylon (plastic) pry bar like the one in the picture below. First thing to do is lift the hood (bonnet), and remove the push in retainer or screw (depending on the year I guess) that is at dead center of the scoop, slightly to the back. Then, using the wide and thin end of the pry bar(arrow), wrap a t-shirt around the end for extra security for scuffing. Insert the pry bar down into the gap, either at the lower left or lower right corner of the scoop. Gently lower the pry bar, causing the corner of the scoop to "pry" up, until you hear a pop...that pop will be the first of several retaining posts popping out of it's retaining clip. Slowly work your way around the scoop in this gap, prying up and detaching the retainer posts til you reach your starting point...pick up the scoop.
I'm assuming all Gen 2 scoop retention is the same, mine was a 2010 I did it on. Here's my black stainless steel scoop insert from MinFini.

Thanks, it's so simple it's scary. When that first pin pops (using the nylon pry bar and t-shirt), you're gonna say to yourself..."is that it?" I know I did. Start to removed, right about 3 minutes with zero damage or broken pins..

This was super helpful but just to make it clear for anyone trying this, the scoop pops off straight up rather than sliding forward. To me it looked as though it should slide forward and wasted a lot of time without any progress. Maybe my '11 Clubman is different but I unscrewed the little black plastic expander screw. Directly behind (a few inches) that is a gray plastic expander peg- with the hood (bonnet, sorry) up lean in and look back, it's shielded from easy view by a metal shelf. I've read to use needle nose pliers but I couldn't find mine so used a putty knife to pop it up. Once that gray peg is out, I could get my fingers under the back of the scoop and pulled gently but firmly to one side until I heard a loud pop. I just worked my way around and lifted it out. There were 5 pegs to pop in addition to the big one in the back center that I pushed up from the underside. It was dark when I did it so of course have no photos but hopefully this will clear up any residual confusion. I put in the stainless Mini Fini screen and think it looks pretty cool.

One of my holding clips broke off and now the entire scoop has cracked. I notice I do not have a insulation panel at all! Which could have led to failure of that plastic part.
Does anyone recommend somewhere to purchase an aftermarket scoop+insulation panel + all needed hardware available? Thanks!

We have the primed hood scoop HERE with the mounting hardware kit HERE. We have a hood scoop heat shield HERE to protect the hood scoop from turbocharger heat. Or you could go with the M7 Speed Vortex Scoop upgrade. Let me know if you have any questions.

Heat Shield installation
kind of hard to see b/c my new scoop is so reflective, but the heat shield just seems to be floating
How I bolted the heat shield under the hood. Look correct?

So I also just replaced my Hood scoop due to plastic retainer failing and the scoop splitting before I found out what to do. I also ordered that Hood Scoop heat Shield, and although the installation seemed pretty straight forward, it does not look very study. Any thoughts?

I have the same heat shield. It slides right above between the bottom of the scoop and the top of the plastic piece that broke on you. Those 2 cut outs in the heat shield, slide and lock it down better so its not so loose.
