Satellite Radio

I am just in the midst of buying a 07 MCS and I asked the dealer about satellite radio. He told me that the licensing agreement between MINI Canada and Sirius is being held up by the CRTC so he cannot offer that as an option until next spring at the earliest. He claimed that the only way to get satellite radio in a Canadian MINI would be to use a standalone unit since there was no way to run it through the radio even though the radio contains a Sirius band.

Although I am more of an XM fan, I would consider Sirius if that's all there is.

Anyone in Canada running satellite radio and if so, how are you doing it?

Thanks in advance.

I've been considering buying a MINI USA Sirius module for my '06 MCS, for a clean OEM install. I don't want a clunky 3rd party control unit, nor an ugly "wart" on my clean roof. Just get the local techs to install the kit (plug & play), and then activate. To Sirius it would just be another serial #, wouldn't it? They wouldn't know where the car is...

My MINI dealer told me that Sirius would know that it a Canadian car when the Satellite radio interfaced with the MINI's radio and wouldn't allow a registration. Not sure if I understood things correctly but there would be a problem if you tried to run through the MINI's radio. Of course using a separate unit and running things through the cassette or FM adaptor work work OK but you wouldn't have a clean installation.
Also I believe there is a difference between a 2006 and a 2007 installation.
