Hit and run, yay.

Came home for lunch yesterday, discovered someone had sideswiped my mini pickup. Yay. Now the cars parked in an off street drive, pretty far back so that puts my neighbor as the most likely suspect. Come home and shes home too. Look over her car, sure enough green paint from my truck is still on it. I grab my camera and take some pictures. Go knock on the door. "I need your insurance paperwork, you hit my truck". "I didnt hit your truck". "Lady, my paint is still on your car". "Please get your paperwork". "Show me". I show her the paint. "Oh thats not paint, thats green dirt" and she starts rubbing it off. I told her you can rub it off, but I already took pictures for evidence, please get your paperwork. "Well how do I know you didnt hit me?" "Because I never drive the car". "I saw you drive it on Sunday morning when you moved all the cars around". "I moved it, and moved it back when I got out the car I sold, there were two people there if you want me to call them as witnesses". "Well I'll have to talk to my insurance company first". "Ok, I'm going to give you two options, 1 you get your paperwork, or 2 I call the police and file charges for a felony hit and run". "Dont threaten me!" "I'm not threatening you, I'm giving you two options, its your choice between the two". She finally tells me she'll be over with her paperwork. Wouldnt give me hers without me giving her mine. She was very dodgey though, acting like she was going to take mine without me getting hers. Finally I got it all, and called both companies. I'm just hoping they are going to see through her bs and realize she hit a parked car.

She's toast and she's stupid enough to honk off a neighbor.

Yup, you should have called the police for a report. Was this on base or off?

It was off base. I talked to the police today, pretty much theres nothing they can or are willing to do because its not on a public road. In their words because its a private shared drive, its a civil matter. Nice huh? Even if it was on a public road according to them it would be classifed as failure to stop. Reason #458 why I am ready to leave this country. When my wife saw she wasnt going to give me her info, she immediately went inside and called the police, and came back to let me know she contacted them. I talked to my insurance company. They told me where to take it for a estimate. I told them I would, but I wanted to wait until it was settled so I dont have to pay the deductible, ($500). I had planned on stripping it down when I get back to the states and doing it all up, but wasnt planning on having to do anything this soon. My question at this point is can I take the money from the damage, and put it towards a full respray and pay the difference?

I would have called the cops as well, as soon as she denied it, and then stood by the car with camera in hand and documented her destroying the evidence while I waited for them to arrive.

Hope you get it all worked out!

plkdb,

Yikes, the women around you are out to get your minis! Sorry to hear about this one. Amazing how people can be jerks, even when they are obviously at fault. I'm glad you took photos. They're a must. Photos saved me in a near-total collision some years ago when the other party attempted to gang up on me and accused me of being at fault. The truth was evident by the photos I took! Case closed, they lost!

Good luck!

My girlfriend's neighbor hit her Chevy Tahoe (and yes, I drive a MINI and my gf has a big SUV) so hard it woke her up out of bed. Her brother saw the guy drive off and got the plate number. When the cops showed they told her it was her neighbor that did hit her. She ended up not filing charges for hit and run (he came back after his wife called him) He claimed he didn't notice he did it but it took off her rear bumper.

Ash screams, "Burn her house down!" She is a dodgey **** and needs to be taught a lesson. Being homeless should teach her something.

This same thing happened to me one Easter morning. Unlike you, I just called the police and took her drunk@ss to jail.

Looks like a respray of the whole side (if not the whole truck) to me. It'll be hard to get a perfect match. Make her pay....

If she doesn't pay, well, you're at an airbase right? Sometimes there's "errant" missiles....

No, the scratches are way to deep to buff out. Theres some metal deformation thats going to need worked. I stopped down today for them to start the estimate. The guy gave me a rough guide of about 600 pounds/1200 dollars. Now I just need to hear from the insurance company that hers is covering it. I talked to the guy at the body shop and told him he was going to have fun because the color isnt a standard color for the mini p'ups. I'm going to see if I still have the tin that the guy gave me when I bought it.

Well, good luck to you. you should see if you can get some extra paint from him for touch-ups when needed.

I'd get a complete re-paint if possible rather than risk mismatched paint. Tell themn it was a custom color.

For the answer of what can you do with the money it's really anything you want. I hope you get enough for the respray, but is is money for damages based on estimated cost of repair. It is entirely in your disgression what to do with it. In truth if you choose you can pocket the cash and sell the car if that is what you choose to do. Unless you obligate yourself to having the insurance company get it fixed, you can do/not do anything you choose.

Really sad to hear that happened. I personally would not plan on property damage that could not be traced to me to happen in a few years. No, I can't be that patient for revenge, nor would I condone that type of thing...

Wow that came out funny with the italics, I don't know what that means...

As far as the cops crap that totally sucks. I bet it they saw you run a redlight then saw the car in your driveway they would be there to ticket you. Don't get me started on "the law"...
