Hey Hal- I might be the only one meeting up with you in November. I don't really know what will be going on at that point. I think the husband might be going to MS to see his father that weekend. We'll see though. I'll do my best.

We'll kinda play it by ear. As we get closer to that time, I'll exchange phone numbers with you so we can stay in touch once we get in the area.

Man I'm beat! I've been cleaning and cleaning and detailing Sir Cedric. Still not done. I still want to remove the wheels so I can give them a thorough cleaning and waxing. I also need to vacuum and clean the interior. Haven't done that in months.

Morning all - Happy Labor Day to all!!!
Hope everyone is having a great weekend so far!

We had our annual Labor Day party yesterday, about 70 people. all was going well until out of the corner of my eye I see someone kick my dog!!! did not hurt her, but kick her just the same, becuase their child was eating and my dog went over and either licked the child's face or lick their food.. not sure which...
I reacted quickly and confronted them and they started to yell at me and making a scene then the spouse left. Husband stayed not sure why. then he spent the next hour as we were "talking it out" telling me I'm not a nice person! HUM...
My other guests slowly started to leave. put a damper on my party and my mood.

How would everyone else handle this situation, just curious!!!

I take a dim view of anyone miss treating an animal.......my first reaction would have been just to politely ask the person to leave after I would have picked up my baby and put him/her somewhere safer. I don't think I would have cared to talk or debate with them just escort them out quietly. There is no excuse for what she did......none!

Gem,
Sorry your party was dampened. I would have confronted the bastard, and asked them to leave. You shouldn't have had to listen to someone berate you, especially at your own house. And they shouldn't have kicked your dog.
Do not invite them back to your house. This man is unstable. Sounds like he gets off being the center of attention and making others look little. You and your husband/family do not need him or his family in your life.
Sorry if that sounds a bit harsh, but I haven't had coffee and this cough is making my brain bounce around!
Hugs- and hugs to your dog.

*sigh*

I took Mugen outside this morning and the son of my neighbor couple across the street came by to ask me if I knew how he could get in touch with the local Merc club so they could sell his dad's car because his mother was afraid to drive it. He thought I would know since I drove a MINI and was clearly a car enthusiast.

He told me his father passed away. He said that he'd had a stroke.

Keep a good thought for them please. I can't imagine what she must be going through right now.

You did the right thing Gem. I would have done the same. Maybe talk to the parents directly and ask them to watch their kid next time. You know that fake kind of courtesy you offer to guests when you really want to slap the taste out of their mouths.

Gem... do not invite him back. People who cannot treat your property and your pets with respect have no business being in your home. You have one less invitation to write out next year.

RG- Sorry about your neighbor. The meatball joke is not funny anymore.

Gem- Like DrewN said... one less invitation next year!

Sika- Where you been "hibernating"? Were you in Alaska? It's too hot in Houston for hibernation!

Thank you ola. I'm just keeping a good thought for them and I am sure they will pull through. I am very sad for their loss though... I hope that at least the email address for the president of the local Merc club will help them sort through a small part of what they have to sort through.

Oh, and Gem... if someone were a guest in my house and had kicked MY dog... I'd have just walked up to them and said, "This is his house. Not yours. Leave now and do not ever come back."

Thanks everyone, I wanted to hear if I over reacted in others eyes. I actually did tell them "She lives her you don't and your not welcome." I packed their plate of munchies as they were leaving and they said we will come back later for that and I said "no you won't". handed it to them and THEY WILL NOT EVER BE INVITED BACK. His comment while he was bashing me (as I stood there and looking at him thinking are you for real), he said everyone knows how you protect your dog and I looked and him and said "yes I will protect my dog and any other animal and you think I'm going to feel bad about that?" HA!!!!
Sad people to think I should have treated them better them a family member. My cousin and wife saw what happen just as i did, my cousin went over to get my dog and make sure she was ok and his wife said, "HOLY CRAP there she goes". I was proud of myself even if my party did end early! The people that will come back are the people that looked after my dog! thank god she wasn't hurt or I would be in jail today!

RG - so sorry about your neighbor, maybe a premade cassarole would help them right now as they probably don't feel like cooking or probably eating. at least they will have some food in the house. (The Italian in me - that is what we always do)
Good thoughts for the family!

We love you too Gemmy!

RG- I'm with Gemmy on the "bring food" and comfort. It's an old southern tradition to bring casseroles and food for the families when someone dies. One thing you don't want to think about, what you DON'T think about, is eating when a loved one dies.

Hugs- V

Hia Freebs.

Gem - sorry to hear about this. When we have big parties, we keep the dogs away from people for pretty much this reason, unless they're close friends and/or all have dogs themselves. Was everyone warned the dog was lose? I don't think you were unreasonable to tell them to leave - and if you weren't nice people, why the HELLLLLLL were they eating your free food in the first place!!?!?!

Anyway. I attempted to tame the mutant lavender yesterday, but was bested by persistent rain and leaky plumbing. And then got distracted by the need to fill up the dumpster so we can have it taken away before being charged another month. OH MY GAWD but the NASTIEST STUFF was coming out of those ceilings!!!!! *shudder*

Back to the grindstone. I just want to go back to bed, though.

Hi everyone!!! Glad to hear all are doing well!! RG- so sorry about your neighbor-- life is short---once in a while we get reminded of that fact.... RG- I also spotted your FB post, good luck with the back yard and the TRU Green chemicals Take care of Mugen!!!

Gem- sorry to hear about your party---- I tend to agree with UhOh-- our parties are without our dogs in tow--- little kids/food and doggies don't seem to mix--- sorry it escalated to such a level of unpleasantness. What a bummer. But I am glad to hear Thistle is okay! But those sort of "incidents" are upsetting and hopefully you are recovering from it.

So your hubby dives? If he ever wants to get into the water please let us know, we would love to have him with us. It's a great, relaxing place to be.
Ola, I was wanting to call you over the weekend, but wasn't sure that was a good time to call..... ???
As for drysuits in a pool?? You don't want a heavy constrictive drysuit for 72 degree water in a pool, but for sure a 3 mm wetsuit would be helpful and there are some really comfortable styles out there now. Henderson is a great brand to look at. BTW- hubby found a tear in on of my wrist seals so I guess it wasn't to goop in my hair after all,, I really had a leak!

Hal- thank you for finding me and friending me on FB I appreciate it.
I am tired ( what's new?) and any vestige of "witty-ness" is long gone,,, night night!
Oh! Tnmm,, sorry to hear that "the cough" is still pestering you,, hang in there!

Cab, thanks. I didn't know the guy, as I said. I was going to take some cookies over, but I just... this neighborhood is so weird that I just didn't feel comfortable doing it. I did offer my condolences to his sons tho.

As soon as Trugreen opens up, I'm giving them a piece of my mind! Thanks for the thoughts. Mugen seems ok, I've been washing his feet as I bring him in and I turned on the sprinkler system over his potty area for a good two hours last night... and then it rained this morning, so I hope it's all clear now.

Hi Freebs!!
I have been worrying all monring that my post might have sounded judgemental so I wanted to clarify to you, dear Gemmy that I wasn't saying that I thought the " party debacle" was due to you not keeping sweet Thistle away from the guests.... I think I was just commiserating by saying I learned long ago that things like that can happen and whether this couple are people who you value as friends or not isn't the main issue here, it's the unhappiness and insecurities that surface afterward. Meaning that here you are now feeling upset and insecure and all you wanted to do is to have a nice relaxing party. **hugs**
And if you think about it-- I am sure that the couple in question feel horrible too. It's just such a shame. Hang in there Gem and keep Thistle on her allergy meds!! And, yes, keep that couple off future invites!!

As for your husband, I am so sorry he is haivng such pain. I know 4 months of nerve pain is horrible, just hate to hear the word surgery tossed before trying acupuncture, massage and rehab. I would opt for the dreaded epidural injections first also!!

Hia Freebs. RANT: Ok, I've had enough. My boss has overextended my generosity. She leaves for vacation for two weeks, and on her way out the door hands me what we call (in the Army vernacular) a SH** SANDWICH. I am BEYOND pissed off at the contracting office - whom is likely to cause us to lose $350,000 of critical study money out of SHEER and PREVENTABLE INCOMPETENCE. A barely-trained freakin' MONKEY could do their job!!!!!!

I may have mentioned it before, but two of my mid-to-high ranking bosses assigned me a mantra. "It is not my job to have all the answers, but it IS my job to ask lots of penetrating and even occasionally seemingly offensive questions, as part of the analytical process that leads to insight and refinement." So now they send me to a myriad of conferences...with the sole purpose of "sic-ing" me on the hosts with penetrating and offensive questions. I don't have time for all of this, people!!

Hey Cab- No need to call... I'm good!

Thanks for the tips on the wetsuit thing. Yeah, a big thick stiff suit would be weird and NON-functional for me. Right now my heat pump is on the blink and apparently my back-up (the expensive gas heater) is not working either.

As for your concern about coming off as "judgemental"... I certainly didn't think so. I doubt that Gem felt like you were being that way to her either. We all know we've got nothing but love for each other! I don't have people over very often... but when I have in the past I have put my kitties in my room with the door closed and I sent my dog over to hang with "Grammie". Just for safety's sake and for everyone's concern. My Jackie is a very fun loving pooch and she is VERY frisky. She would also escape and be gone quickly... so just in case anyone accidentally opened the door without thinking... well, just a little less drama to deal with if something DID happen. Still sucky that everything went down as it did... with all the personal attacks and all. Not cool.
