The ash cloud from the eruption has closed down most of the major airports in Europe and Britain. Ash is not conducive to the proper running of jet engines.
#7602
Yeah Hal, I saw that too... and that the ash cloud might be around for anywhere from a few days to weeks...
I feel for all those folks stranded in airports.
Let us know what Doc says Darren. (Oh, and do you feel like you've now got a bunch of Mothers taking care of you? It's because we care!)
Morning Freebies! Hope you are having a wonderful day especially because it's FRIDAY and tax day is OVER!
adios!

Still feeling a bit dizzy. Hoping I can last another 30mins here in the office.
The ENT is going to be on the island on April 30, but unfortunately he's booked. Unfortunately, I'll probably be off to my field offices the next time the ENT is in town (May 21st), so I may just have to make a separate trip to Anchorage before that.
I'd hate to get sick flying (in a small plane) between my field offices.
And +1 about the weather. It pretty much rained all weekend, stopping only enough to tease me into going outside. I'd get started on a project and get rained on...so I gave up and spent most of it indoors.

Hey Freebs!! whasssss'up??
AK-- OMG- you really have to go through a lot to see a specialist. It makes me appreciate the easily accessability here... what a shame that you have to wait or worse yet, fly and puke !!
My mom has vertigo - the kind where you get some sort of blockage in the teensy inner workings in the ear. the Dr's "fix" her by tilting her way back in a reclining chair of sorts and move her around until they feel it has been enough manuevering to dislodge the said blockage... (little crystalizations)
Another person I know says her Dr said to just perch on the arm of a couch and just to let yourself fall-- unstopped- down to the cushions on the main seat of the couch,,,, does that make sense? But my friend said it is too difficult to get positioned correctly and fall without hurting her neck so she finds just sitting on the couch and falling sideways does the trick, without perching on the arm portion.. so,,,hey,, what do you have to lose?? LOL go pitch yourself onto your couch!!
seriously,, vertigo sucks,, sorry you have to go through that.
the volcano is something else,,, those poor stranded people... I have a friend who is stranded in the UK-- she was there on business so I am sure that her emplyer is covering her expenses, but still what a pain..
Tnny- I remember those commercials and you are right! I think we "parkayed" her one time too many...! Remember the little raccoon covering his/her little eyes with it's paws?? LOL

HI FREEBS!
Sorry I've been MIA. Between classes, homework, and just life I've been a little busy. Winter here in KS may have been nasty, but the spring is absolutely beautiful! We've been enjoying 60-degree sunny weather. I just wish it would LAST. This area typically gets up to the 100-degree marks in the summertime.
Darren, seriously dude...that's not right. I really hope you feel better soon. Or at least find out WHY you feel like that!
We attacked the insanely woody vines trying to tear the privacy fence down in our rental-yard. I sent pictures and an email to the landlords ("Sorry if we went too far!") but we figured they'd want to save money by preserving the fence instead of going for weedy-shade that was liable to take someone's eye out. THis place is NUTS for silly yard stuff. EVERYBODY has EVERYthing in their yards!!! Dancing frogs, gazing *****, kitschy windchimes (and I'm not talking just one - FIVE each!!!) and just all kinds of crazy stuff. No rhyme or reason to it. ANd this yard is "landscaped." But it beats me how - it's so high maintenance, and hard to tell the difference between what the landlords thought was "landscaped plant" and weeds (they even admitted to not knowing while they lived here.) We did find our own little critter, too - a garden snake. (At least I HOPE it was a garden snake - he didn't try to swipe at me when I picked him up...) I'll take snakes over creepy crawlies any day!! Oh ya...and it seems we have sugar ants. <-- NOT happy.
Other than that...I've been attempting to concentrate on "balance." I sucked at teeter-totters as a kid, so here goes!

It's not the sounds that get me...it's the SIZE and QUANTITIES everybody seems to be obsessed with! non-sounds, indeed.

Morning Freebies! I've been out of the loop too- Has to do with the pregnant wife of my farm manager about to pop (she's 29 weeks with twins, but hi risk), my son breaking his wrist, the horses getting out and laughing their butts off as they snort, fart, kick, buck their way all over our farm... This place is crazy!
Sarah, I'm guessing one of the reasons for all the wind chimes is that they're poor man's tornado sirens. I've noticed a lot of people in Tornado alley use wind chimes for that reason- LOTS of wind chimes. When it's a normal day, the chimes just tinkle, but during a storm or when the winds are changing (potential tornado), they make a racquet ...
Just a thought from the flip side of the universe!
Have a great day

g'morning all.
cabwy - Thanks for the suggestion. My doc also suggested that something in my inner ear may be getting 'stuck', but never mentioned anything about trying to dislodge it by falling on to something like a couch. I may give that a shot next time I start feeling the effects of vertigo.
I'm glad I still live in one of the 'cities' in Alaska - we still have a hospital and numerous clinics here. We just lack full-time specialists like ENT doctors. There's plenty of communities that don't even have clinics - a couple of the field offices I support are located in communities like that.
And xuhohx - yup. It sucks. I wouldn't wish motion sickness/vertigo on anyone - not even my worst enemies. It's such a yucky feeling and it even gets severe enough to alter my (normally rock-solid) mental state. I seriously feel like dying when I'm puking my guts out and the world is spinning uncontrollably. I hope I can get this problem figured out and sorted.

Just got back earlier this evening from MINI of Nashville. Took Sir Cedric to get some routine maintenance done to him before going to the Dragon.
They gave me loaner to drive until they get finished with the service. The loaner is an 2010 Oxygen Blue Just-a-Cooper with the Steptronic automatic. It's rather peppy for not being boosted.
When I got home I had the wife drive it around some to get the feel of it. She has driven Cedric, but doesn't particularly care for the manual transmission. She really liked this one though. Only thing she doesn't like is the lack of passenger carrying capability.
I think she might like the Countryman coming out next year.

AK, I am so sorry you are still not better, I know the "not wanting to live anymore" feeling, I've had it numerous times, people who don't know the Vertigo/Projectile puking don't really understand. Have you tried to clean your ear(s)?? What about sleeping with, what ever side you can fall asleep on, your earlobe folded and tucked under your head?? This will give your ear canal a straighter line and possibly try and drain out what ever is in there. While you are having your dizzy spell try sitting/laying still and staring at a spont on the wall/ceiling, it will help get you feeling more stable faster. I still think if you can get some Zyrtec it would be a big help. It will keep your ear canals clear, if something lodged it won't work there, but having my ear canals clear, being able to breath and feel that, even if my sinuses are a little stuffy like they are right now, I know I won't be dealing with a Dizzy Spell. But I've had years experience at this, so knowing what helps, once you get there it will be a Huge Relief!! For your Freebie Family too!!
So my Heart Surgeon Appt. got rescheduled for May 6th @ 2pm. I did get to see my Thoracic Surgeon, I also saw my Cardiologist they both signed my Heart Pillow, it is a Pillow I got after surgery to help with coughing and chest pain, remember most Heart Surgeries are done through the Breast Bone, but mine being done from the side, the Pillow was to hard. So I use it as a Souvenior Pillow and have had all of my Drs. sign it. For my side incesion I use a Stuffed BullDog (think MINI) I got for Molly on a trip to Ikea. When I'm hurting or sleeping it is tucked under my left arm close to my body to help ease the pain.

I L<3VE my Pillow, it is shaped like a Heart, has the Hospital Name & Logo on one side and a Heart Diagram on the other.
It's funny my body almost knows on the hour when my next Pain Med. is coming. I have to keep track of when I take them, I'm only supposed to take 1 every 4hrs., but if the pain is to much and I absolutely can't wait to take one then I wait at least 2+hrs. Last night I took my last Pain Med. at 9:30pm and did not wake up 'til 6:30am this morning before I took my next one.
Enjoy your Breakfast with Cab&Mr. Cab...this time don't get yourselves thrown out of the Restaurant, K??

THe windchime thing is logical. So Riddle Me This, Batman... Why would they have the dancing/yoga frogs, right beside the cement kids on a bench, beside a rusty old wagon wheel, next to a CANDLEABRA (NO KIDDIN!), next to a cement fairy, next to about fifty birdhouses? There's one house that completely baffles me - that would be the candleabra (sp?) house. I mean, 99% of the houses have the rest of the stuff I describe, but THAT house goes above and beyond...there seems to be absolutely NO rhyme or reason to the stuff they have out on display. But they seem to be very proud of it. They look like average Americans, but....perhaps they are (as a bumper sticker I saw out here) "adult children of alien invaders."
Darren - no advice from this corner. Just good thoughts for recovery VERY soon. Let me/us know if you need venting/talking.
