Mini respray... Roof color?

I'm getting my 1990 British Racing Mini resprayed. It has the original BRG paint and because I'm not tearing the whole car apart for paint and just getting a respray, I'm going with the original British Racing Green. However, the roof came in white. I'm not crazy about mismatched colored roofs... Who thinks I should paint the roof green or white? I'm leaning more towards green with bonnet strips.

Flavor

I had a two tone Monte Carlo and loved the paint scheme it but on the Mini It never did a thing for me. I bought my first mini a year ago and in my shopping that was the one thing I Knew i would change if I had not found the right one. I got lucky and found an 05 Hyper Blue with the matching roof. The funny Part is I already have Plans for House of Kolor paint. I love the green Idea almost painted old Jag that color.

I would paint the roof a cream white. Like Porsche's cream white.

I suppose it would be like an aged white, perhaps like an old billiard ball, but not as yellow. It might look amazing on BRG.

It would be my color of choice on a 911.

I vote for white roof. There is a reason they came in BRG with the white contrasting roof, because it looks damn good!

But it is your car and you already said you don't like a white roof so why are we discussing it?

Spray the whole thing BRG and add some white or silver bonnet stripes, that will look pretty good as well.

I vote for white as well, but your vote is the only one that counts. Keep in mind that BRG/white roof is a forever classic combo.

I think a silver roof would look great.

after some thought, i think im going with the BRG all around. yes, the BRG/white is a classic combo but honestly, mismatched roofs have never done anything for me. if i decide to go with it later, respraying the roof would be cheap and and easy change. ill post photos once its all said and done. thanks for the comments!

Depends on what you are going for. If you are concerned about doing an historically accurate resto, stick with the white roof. If you are going for a personalized custom, do what you want. I do agree with Nabeshin - a creamy white on "british racing green" is an awesome color combination. It is very reserved and classy. Possibly do the wheels and strips in the same color - really set it off.

I noticed after your respray you didn't have the pinstripes on the sides reapplied. Was that intentional? The painter asked me about this too and am not sure which route I'd like to go.

Continuing with the paint work... he has told me that he can paint the bonnet stripes on. The last Mini I had, I put the cheap sticker/vinyl bonnet stripes on and was afraid to take them off as it might pull up the paint and show fading paint.

As for bonnet stripes, I was kind of wanting to go with something nonstandard. I like some of the stripes that I've seen on some of the BINIs. They look slick and although (most) Classics aren't fast, they look fast.

What do you think something like this would look like on a BRG Mini in silver (only on the bonnet- no stripes on roof)? I'm planning on redoing the interior in black and silver so I figure silver will look best on the exterior with some nice Minilites (already ordered).

It only matters what you like, not us. It's your car and you will be the one looking at it each day. If you like center hood stipes then that is what you should do.

Ahh yes, now I see it. New oval tail lights, dual gas caps, "mustache" type bumper attachment, mk1 trunk, 10 inch wheels. Very nice

Union Jack roof. Do it! Honestly though coming from a fellow BRG/BRG combo car I love my green roof. I have also seen a green roof classic with white stripes and it looks awesome! So, I would have to say that the BRG/BRG would be sweet! Then chrome everything. Chrome grill, door handles bumpers, window trim, mirrors, the typical classic pieces with a nice set of polished wheels. Tint the windows to 35% so people can still see in but keeps them guessing.

my .02

edit: Exactly like below but in British Racing Green

It's a BAD idea to have stripes painted on the car. That makes it permanent. The vinyl looks just as good and can be changed at will.

As for paint, why not go with this style 2 tone?

On MINIs I really like the body colored roof, on Minis it looks terrible. JMHO.
