1984 Mini 1275 Distributor Spark Plug Order
I ave searched and I appologize if this has been covered before. My 1984 1275 Mini came to me with spark plug wires not installed and i can't seem to find for the life of me what the oder is on both the distributor and on the motor. My distributor says either 65DM4 or 85DM4, I can't make it out for sure. Any help would be much appreciated.

hmmmmm
I just went thru a lenghty dizzy/ignition fix
- the lucas distrubutors found on the Mini - and the A series block - tend to be the 23 or 25D4 and later the 45D4 {the 45 can replace the 23/25}
- On an A+ block you'll find the 59D4 .. after 1982. The shaft on the 59 is different - a 25 or a 45 won't fit the A+ block without some type of modification or adapter and vice verse
- Later when the points came out and the first generation of electronic ignition systems are found...it appears this is the 65DM4 - it is pictured in the Haynes 5B-12. There is no mention of an 85.....
with any of the above, the order of the cylinders is 1234 with #1 at the timing chain end - the end with the fan belt... or reading right to left. Looking at it from the front I guess you see 4321!
The firing order is 1-3-4-2 with #1 typically set up on the 23/25/45/59 as the plug connection pointing towards #1, and then rotating counter-clock wise, so on the dizzy you'd see from the top of the cap/front of the car
3 1
4 2
this all found in Haynes Chapter 5 - distributor ignition systems - but they don't mention fitting the 65D. My guess is it is the same since they DO mention it still rotates counter clock wize. Essentially the 65 appears to be just like a 45 with the Pertronix or Alden electronic module and that's how they are set up....
