My classis is FINALLY registered!
Finally got it to pass smog. It was fine on CO but way high on hydrocarbons in the exhaust. It turns out that the head has adjustable valves, and that the exhaust valves weren't closing fully. That allowed petrol to go through the cylinder and into the exhaust stream without being burnt. After adjusting the valves correctly, at idle the hydrocarbons are at 67ppm with an allowable level of 200, at 2500rpm they read at 223 with an allowable 500ppm.
So the car is finally in my name, registered and waiting on my "78 MINI" plates to arrive!
