Minidomore Trailer Hitch for Clubman (maybe in May)

Hi,

I wrote to MiniDoMore to determine if there would be a trailer hitch mount for the Clubman. They replied that it could be ready as soon as this May.

They'll put you on a notification list if you're interested in updates.

No clue as to how they'll present the hitch yet.

Just an fyi...

I'm on their email for getting updates, but I haven't heard anything in months.

I just emailed them to see if they have a new date for the Clubman. Stay tuned...

Got this e-mail today. Hopefully this availability date of "soon" is realistic, and check out that price--alright!

Yes, we will have units available by the end of August. We are working
with a local Clubman owner to finalize the design. Our plan is to offer at
$325 shipped.

Yep, I received similar:

We ran into issues with getting a Clubman to test with. We were
working with Mini of Pittsburgh, but, they ran out of units for us to use.
We FINALLY found a local owner and are working with him on fitment. We've
tested twice and have another date set for a third fitting, then
production. We should be ready to sell by the end of August. Thanks

And this just in responding to my query:

"Sorry for the delay. We have another test fit scheduled for this Friday
August 15th. We are hoping to finalize production next week with a goal of
taking orders and shipping before month end. Thanks

tiny bit closer...

Still no hitch, but minidomore has added this to their website, so hopefully there'll be a product soon. Wish they'd put up pictures of the prototype. And hopefully they are still aiming for $325: put minifini's price to shame.

I too have been asking Minidomore about the released date. They said they are still working on fit trials. I asked if they could provide any pictures and they did not. However they did say that the hitch would exit behind the license plate. Sounds cool!!! Of course your plate will need to have an alternate mount when the hitch is in use.

I know I'm in the clubman forum, but I just got the MINIdomore hitch for my MCS.

Just a really dumb observation note, but the wiring harness (for trailering) is a separate purchase. I didn't realize that until too late and had to order separately. With hitch, harness, and drawbar/ball it's cost me $495. I also had somebody else (with torque wrenches and time) put it on for me...it's turning out to be slightly more expensive than planned, but from all accounts, it'll be worth it. (Fingers crossed.)

Brent & crew are working overtime to get a lot of their products out - got backlogged somewhere, probably with the Clubman hitch. If you want responses, email is better than calling; they're just really busy.

Good luck!

I would like to say I am the local clubman owner that the test fits are going on. I think it was the final fit for me since I do not need the hitch.

Some folks want the hitch receiver simply as a rack mounting location -- to carry bikes, skis, etc. To raise the standard price so that it includes the extra, trailer-related goodies would probably hurt sales.

I know how you feel, though. It feels a little like bait and switch when you're the one forced to buy unexpected extras.

+1... I had a hitch on my '96 G20 just for a bike rack. Easier to use than a roof rack, and very easy on/off, unlike a roof rack. My bike fits inside my Clubman, but I'd highly recommend a hitch / rear bike rack combo for those looking for a roof rack alternative.

They really needed to get this thing out in spring/summer...I'm only weeks away from putting the bikes in storage for the rainy season. :| I may be too broke in Spring to buy the hitch! :P

Just to let everyone know. On Sept 29, 2008 i sent an e-mail to Mini Do More and on Sept 30, 2008 got this response.

""This is going to happen. Please see the attached powerpoint. We are sending a prototype for certification and should have a unit available for presale any day now. Thanks for your patience.""

There were three pictures in the powerpoint showing the prototype on the floor mounted on a car and approximately where it would come thru the rear bumper of the car. Here is that picture

I like this concept for hiding the hitch. I plan to make a "Receiver" plate holder for when I'm not using the hitch and will make a mount on my bike rack for the plate for when I am using the hitch. For me I don't plan to use the hitch for a trailer so I don't need to worry about the plate mount in this situation.

Looks like you would have to get under the car to pin the draw bar. I also wonder where the safety chains would hook?
