So does the Clubman have a spare tire? I'm confused.

 

As far as I can tell:

Clubman - yes
Clubman S - no

There is room for a spare in all Clubmans, but only the base Clubman comes with a spare.

 

I have a Clubman (Purchased with 6,000 miles) that came with run-flat summer tires and no spare. I recently switched them to Bridgestone Potenza All Season and a spare. I noticed that there is a big piece of foam in the spare tire well but have not tried to take it out. Is it hard to take out?

My wife hit a piece of metal on the interstate the other day and it completely sliced the sidewall of the new Bridgestone. I'm glad I bought the spare because there was no way that anything would have fixed that. It even took a small chunk out of the lip on the rim.

 

I just bought a spare from a Chevy Cobalt for 45 bucks. Have been told it fits, but won't have time to check until Monday. Having friends in the salvage yard industry sure helps! I'll let y'all know.

 

Heard the donut spare from a Miata also works.

 

I know the one from the Cobalt works. I bought one for $35 from the junkyard and actually had to use it three days later. I found that the Mini came with a spare when I pulled the foam insert out. I thought for sure it didn't come with a spare since it had run flats on it.

My wife caught a screw in the front passenger tire this week at 1600 miles, and with the ordeal of trying to find a tire shop that would actually repair a runflat - 90% of the shops said they are unrepairable and must be REPLACED at $150 or so - I've decided to order a spare. Luckily I found a place to patch the runflat for $12...

We're doing a 3000 mile road trip this summer where a flat would be a massive hassle (300 miles from a city and the runflat won't last that long - and my chances of finding the odd-sized runflat in mid-Kansas are not good).

Already have the tools in the trunk, so I just ordered the spare tire, mounting gear, and tool tray that fits inside the wheel that will fit in the spare cubby hole in the Clubman S from Morristown MINI. They've got good prices with a 20% off discount - no taxes and shipping is cheap ($10-$15).

This is just the tray that holds the tools - but it is made to fit inside the spare tire. Once I receive everything I'll get detailed pictures, for others that want to add what should have been a standard factory item.

 

I would also like to see this as I am in the market for a spare as well...

Parts arrived today at my office and I'll get pictures when I install them tonight.

As promised, here are some pictures of the install process:

Step 1: Ignore the dirty Clubman.


Step 2: Remove the cargo cover and flat load floor - you should be left with the empty trunk.


Step 3: Set out the pieces.


Step 4: Assemble the retaining screw and cap, the long end goes into the bottom of the cap.

Step 5: Remove the bottom trunk cover and the existing tray with tools. You should be left with this:

Here is the old tray with jack/tools:


Step 6: Throw the tire in upside down (text and warnings on the bottom) and secure with the assembled screw and cap.


Step 7: Insert new tray (which fits partially inside the spare wheel) and transfer over the jack/tools:


Step 8: Put the floors and cargo cover back in. All done!

 

Is this the same form tray from 2008 Clubman or is it a new part for 09?

 

My guess is that retaining screw goes into the floor first (with torx end sticking out), then you use a torx socket (looks like #30) to make sure it's snug. That way the retaining nut is much easier to screw in once the wheel is in place. It's different than most cars, but it is also more convenient since you don't have to try to hit the hole in the floor with wheel already in place while the nut prevents you from navigating in the dark.

 

Not sure, but I imagine it is probably the same tray. The small section with the jack is a separate piece that fits in the big tray.

Yes, the retaining screw is a bit odd but once you figure it out it all seems to fit well and tight.

 

The tray is a different not as deep as the original tray

Nope - I don't think you can get it for free (although it's worth a try!).

I'm still a bit confussed, does this spare fit the front or would you have to swap a good rear to the front and use the spare on the rear? Thanks.

 

On the Clubman it will fit front or rear with no problems.
On the Clubman S it will ONLY fit on the rear. This is a good thing if you have LSD as it would damage the car if put on the front (it would think that tire is continuously slipping) - but luckily it won't even fit.

If you have a front flat, you'll have to put the spare on the rear and replace the front flat with the good rear.

FWIW, my Cooper came with a spare even though it came with runflats.

So, for those with Cooper Clubmans and RF's, be sure to check if you have one or not before you go out and buy one.

Or, if people could look, it would be nice to get a concensus on whether Non-S Coopers with RF's always come with spares or not.
