Any 2010 R55s with europlates out there?

Hi all

I have been searching europlates around the site but I see hardly any on R55s. I have a 2010 and am thinking of getting a europlate for the front because right now, the front looks a little bare! Any pics would be appreciated, as would recommendations for sites to purchase from. So far, others on the site have recommended licenseplates.tv, bavauto.com, and europlates.com, but I think those recommendations were for R56s. For those of you who have the europlates, has anyone installed them without drilling holes into the bumper? The thought of drilling holes really turns me off.

thanks!

As an R55 and a R56 both have the same front end it does not matter for what you are looking for.

Here is a pic of mine. Kind of dirty but that is what happens up here in snow country.

Also I am required to run a front state plate in MA so i have it on a gominigo NO HOLES LPB Kit. http://www.gominigo.com/NHLPB-main.html

schatzy62: thanks for the link and photo. Very helpful and it seems like the answer I was looking for. A question though, if you know the answer-- has the bumper changed at all between 2007 and 2010? The installation instructions at gominigo.com are for 2007s (and earlier). I think I can use the same bracket for my 2010, right? I assume you used it on your 2008.

Also, did you get the standard kit, or did you get one of the offset versions?

619mini: thanks for the reply. Did you buy your europlate and bracket and then use the gominigo.com mounting kit?

Just used the plate bracket it came with and mounted it in existing front bumper holes. I removed the stock front plate holder and made two holes in the euro plate bracket. Ive had it on on for almost 3 years and not a single problem.

Just remember that an out of country plate is illegal in some states.

Sorry for the delay in responding.

I have the offset plate bracket. As for mounting the mounting bolt is the same style just a different length if I remember correctly.

Yeah like Massachusetts. I have been stopped a couple of times and then have to go to the registry and have someone there give me a letter to take to the court that states "As this Euro Style Plate does not match the regulations and number sequence of the British Registration Plate System it is there for Not a valid European Plate and as such is Not in violation of state laws". The tickets I have been issued have been taken away and expunged from my record.

schatzy62: no apologies, please. I am just glad to get a response.

schatzy62 and Mabbottusmc: Thanks for the pointer about the out-of-country-lates-being illegal. I would never have thought of that. What a PITA to deal with, I bet.

I am still undecided if I will be getting a europlate or not. I really like them, but it might make the front end look too busy since I already have 2 badges on the driver's side. I am usually a more-is-less kind of person, but I remain undecided.

thanks again guys!

Why would you risk a ticket for this look?

i only have a rear plate, still have a good green plate in Ma, so i dont like the fact that the dealer mounted the front plate holder and put a mini plate and a dealer plate bracket on it... they dont pay me to advertise for them so there name is not gona be on my car

agreed, pjv1k! I live in a rear-plate-only state, and my dealer only put a tag frame around my plate. But the first thing I did was remove the dealer frame and replace it with the checkerboard frame of my choice!

Okay maybe you don't like the look but no need to be rude about it.

Also when I leave the state of MA for more than a few hours the front state plate come off and the bumper cover plug goes back in.

It is illegal but who cares! I've been cited for it twice, but have gotten it signed off and it cost me 25$ each time. Small price to pay for such a great look! BTW, nice to see a fellow WCM member here!

In Cali it would still be against the law. NO matter if it was valid or not. Your required two Cali plates.

Maybe I'm going to jinx myself...but we've been driving our Clubman since 2008 with no front plates in California (LA) and haven't been pulled over or ticketed once. I'm just saying.

I like the europlates, they're fun

In MA that is going to be a problem ifit is on the car because there is a statement in the law about how the official plate has to look and if you have the same plate number on something else attached to the car it is illeagal. Even a temporary card board plate can get you ticketed.
