Sunroof lube?

Does anyone know what kind of lube is used or needed on the moving parts of the sunroof? Anthing else to keep the seals from drying out or to make them last longer?

I believe if you ring your MINI dealer, they'll report that the shop uses Kluberplex (www.kluber.com). It's spendy.

I usually use wheel bearing grease. The smell is not too strong and goes away after a few days. It's best to use a small toothpick or burnt incense stick (also good for stirring model paints) to apply small amounts. There are four sets of tracks; take your time and study where the sunroof supports move through them. Two are easily visible along the front half when the sunroof is open. The other two are tucked underneath the seal lines along the back half.

WD40 is just a water displacement and will not last that long. You need a lube with more consistency. Greases are the best option.

This subject has been brought up in the past, so if you use the search you'll come across some good threads.

One thing I noticed last time I used a heavy spray lube, is I will find some light sticky streaks on my back bumper after it rains or a car wash.

I think it comes from the sunroof drains located under the boot hatch.
It is probablly excess lube that gets washed down the track.

ntmid8r, good point. Another good reason to use a grease-base instead of a sprayed lube.

That Kluber site was interesting....they had one specific for "geared sunroofs" in their applications....especially this part: (sorry about the cut and paste, didn't know how to delete the size font thing) and wasn't possible to cut and paste the address bar.

http://www.klueber.com/ the other link from matthew-w had a " ) " in the link....

Probably a good door lube, seat lube, hinges (bonnet and boot) etc....just not sure they sell it in a smaller tube size, but did write them.
