Ever Heard THIS noise?
...GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRIIIIINNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNDDDDDDDDDD .
That's what I heard this morning when I pulled Bergey out of the garage. Pulled to the end of the driveway, heard it again. Backed up to the garage, heard it again. Decided to leave him home and take Dr Evil to work.
Called the local shop that rotated my tires and mounted a new tire last week. Told him it wasn't doing it before I washed the car Saturday and I hadn't driven it since then. Asked him if maybe I sprayed a pebble up between a brake pad and the rotor. He said it wasn't likely.
Asked me if I use any spray on my wheels.
Ding, Ding, Ding !!
Came home, took Bergey around the block, being sure to hit the brakes firmly a few times. No more awful grinding noise.
Apparently some wheel cleaning sprays will dry on the rotors and cause this GOD AWFUL sound when you apply the brakes. I've been using the same wheel cleaner (Griot's) for over a year and that's a first for me.
Whoduthunkit ? Not I.

I heard that sound once and panicked. Got out and found the middlest kid's bike under the back bumper. I felt much better, she didn't.
Good thing it was with the Expedition, course the bike would have been visible if it was the MINI. Stupid SUVs, stupid kids and stupid me for not checking.
Glad it was only your wheel cleaner.

Yeah, Me too... didn't think it could be the brakes. 23,000 miles on the car with almost zero city driving, no sensor warning light, and not even the slightest sound the previous time I drove it. But I never thought of the wheel cleaner causing that sound either.
Funny, the dealership said, "just bring it on in. If you mess up the rotors some more, don't worry about it... it's still under warranty." I like that attitude.

Of course, it could work in reverse. Someone might actually have a brake problem and blow it off because they just used wheel cleaner. :impatient :impatient
