So I finally lost the internal battle with my "neat freak" self and took my MCS out a few times this weekend. The main roads in Detroit were dry, just covered in a salt "dust". I did a light dust with my older cali-duster, however, the wheels and wheel-wells do have some crap in them (mainly from slow driving on my sidestreet).

How should I clean this? I plan on leaving my MCS inside for quite a while now, until the roads get clean (April?). The hose is put away at my house, but I have a portable steam-cleaner. Would it safe to use this on the wheel-wells, lightly on the wheels and a bit on the underbody?

I hate Michigan in the winter All this fooking salt!

thx in advance...

Yes, Salt SUCKS!!!!!!!!
You could try running the hose from a sink inside the house, you may need a cheap adaptor to do it. I don't think a steam cleaner would be too rough on anything, though either.
GL!
See ya in the spring!

Come the first day over 45F, the detailing fanatic in my comes back to life and I'll spend the entire weekend going nuts.

I don't think your "neat freak" self will be able to control you much longer. Give in to the Motoring Temptation. See you at Big Buck next Saturday!

hey ryan, fourtunately, the MCS is not my daily driver, yet- at least not until mid-March. We have an extra car around the house now, which is normally my sisters. 2002 Chevy Prizm... Unexciting, but reliable and good on gas  After that, tho, she will be... right now, it's a dirty, dirty car!

I did try the steamer yesterday, in certain parts, a light spray took off most of the salt and crap in the wheel-wells. I also jacked up the back of the car and got most
of the underbody too, it's still clean. Only 58MI on the clock so far...

I usually do a partial spray on all of my engines in spring (farefully avoiding electrical junctions, sensors, etc). It really does a pretty good job, I also usually spray the door-jams (xpescially the fronts!).

But your right on, this temptation is KILLING me... I can't wait for spring and clear roads
