My CMS is 8 months old and I understand that my exhaust tips are going to be covered with soot. What do you guys use to clean/ polish them? I just picked up some Mothers chrome polish and it did an OK job, but I can't seem to get them clean enough...
I used liquid wrench...it is pretty much WD-40 and it works great and I always have some around. If they are really bad I use that with some 1000 grit sand paper then move up to 3000 grit and a cutting compound. But that is just me using stuff I have in the garage already to keep them pretty.
Master Formula Metal Gloss is the flat out best metal polishing compound on earth! Seriously I've been using it for well over ten years, it's expensive though! I have polished my 100 percent 7075-T6 Supermax with this stuff, it works quickly and can make any aluminum a mirror!

That thing is way too clean for a toy. Looks good though
I used to use SOS or Brillo pads on the chrome and stainless on my Kenworth. Worked really well at getting the soot off the stack tips and the bugs off of the bumper and air cleaners. Water beads up nice afterward too
Me too. Is it too abrasive though, i.e. will it dull the chrome?
No it won't. It says it will also clean rust and brake dust. It isn't made to scour but clean and polish whatever difference that means. but it sure puts a sparkle on the chrome.

Cool - thanks! Funny thing, I was recently looking for something to clean rust off a chrome shower curtain rod. I didn't even think about using The Friend there either. Love that stuff!
My soot doesn't stick to the chrome. I just wipe it off the exhaust tips with the washing mit I use to clean the wheels. I don't have to scrub or anything.

It is amazing how often a SNL quote seems to be just perfect. Right now, Church Lady comes to mind.
