Dirt in Tail light lenses

I have noticed dirt recently in the clear tail lights of my 03 Cooper. Out of warranty. So I took one unit out today to look at it and I am curious if the clear lense part comes off of the unit or not, that Is where the dirt is at. If not any ideas on how to get the dirt out? I have searched some, maybe overlooked it. Please help. It will be dark soon and I would like to get it back together before then. Thanks for your help!

Well the light assembly comes off the back, but I don't know if that would allow you enough access to clean the lenses themselves. Let us know what you do though, as I have the clears on my '05 MCS!

Well very carefully I managed to get the lense part off, it's not made to come off. I popped it off and cleaned the whole thing dried out with a hairdrier and reattached the lense using epoxy and once dry sealed it up with silicone. The dirt actually ate away some of the chrome paint or whatever inside and looks bad, so I'll probably be trying out a cheap set from eBay before investing $100 for one light when I really want 2 clean clear ones.

Also when looking at the diagram on realoem.com, I noticed that on the regular lights there is a gasket piece that goes inbetween the body and the light housing, but when you bring up the clear lights there is no mention of this gasket. I think the gasket is supposed to be there and if it were I wouldnt have had this problem. My lights were installed on my Cooper before even picking it up or seeing it, so I think my dealer when they took out the old ones they threw out the gaskets. Anyhow its like $3 for 2 so I will be getting them, for whatever lights I decide on.
