What tires do people run on the track?
I'm looking for new tires for track use, I was wondering what people run.
We run Dunlop Direzza Z1 Star Specs in 205/50r16.
I did a survey of MINIs at my last track day, and I saw:
Yokohama Advan Neova AD08
Bridgestone Potenza RE760
Yokohama S.Drive
We've had S.Drives as street tires, they're not as grippy as the Direzzas.

Don't know your experience level so, assuming the organization runs a four group progression.
First two groups - Do NOT learn on R-comp tires. Start with a nice about 200 treadwear tire. Their progression of grip is gradual and they will talk to you.
Star Specs, RS-3s, RT-615s are good choices.
Advanced run groups - Whatever you can afford. NT-01s are the best bang for the buck. Hoosiers if you can afford them.

That's another reason I don't want to go with R-comps, my wife's also driving, she's a low intermediate at best. I'm also most comfortable in intermediate (1 group up), I've run in higher groups and its a bit fast for me.

Yes - VV runs 17's. I've run the 15" NTo1's and love the value but am currently going thru a collection off used r-comps I've collected.
Yesterday I did three sessions on Falken Azenies (200 treadwear) that were about 4-5 years old and one session on used A/R'6's... I mistakenly kept one 3-4 yr old a6 and mixed it in with my 2 yr old r6's I got from a co-worker who races. So I had three 205/50/15's and one 225/45/15 mounted and ran them! No big deal...
At Lightning (NJMP):
1:20's on the Falkens
1:18's on the Hoosiers
Broke a stud yesterday so could not run Thunderbolt today..

I have run BFG kdw v2, continental RFT etc before and would not recommend them for the dry or wet track.

I still like the RE-11 tires. I've now tried RE-11A and I think they're about 1.5s slower than the RE-11. The RE-11A grain really badly which made be part of the problem, after our first track day with them we had strips of rubbing just falling off them going home. We had to stop to work out what the weird noise was.
I've also tried Dunlop ZII, they worked pretty well, about as well as the RE-11. They only grained very lightly.
I haven't tried Rivals on track yet, I have used them for autocross. I think the ZII maybe very slightly better for autocross.
