DT BPV Problems (?)

Hello all.

I recently had the Detroit Tuned Bypass Valve installed. Shortly thereafter my SES light came on and I noticed that when I am just getting on the throttle when upshifting, not flooring it, my car 'hesitates' as though there is not enough fuel getting to the engine. Sorry, I do not have the code of the SES issue with me, but the service technician at the BMW/Mini dealership said that at least one of the codes was related to the BPV....this information provided to my even though I did not tell them I had installed the DT BPV.

I have been told that this BPV is a simple device that is not likely defective. However, the problem I am having seems to be similar to the problems other NAMers have had with the stock BPV.

I intend to reinstall the stock BPV and see if that cures the problem. Has anyone out there experienced similar issues?

Cheers, Doug.

BTW: this is a 2005 JCW with an Alta 2% crank pulley, Nology Hot wires, M7 DFIC and a bunch of other goodies that are probably not related to the problem.

Can you get the specific code(s) that was(were) thrown?

Those would go a long way to help figure out what's really going on.

When you installed the Detroit BPV are you sure that you didn't crack the plastic pipe to the TB?

I too had this problem. We took it to MINI of Towson, and they said it was the BPV. I have since shipped it to Chad (Detroit Tuned) and he is going to look at it and see what is up. When I did have the DT BPV in, it was great and I did notice a difference. I now have the OEM BPV in and I deffinately feel the difference between them.

CmdrVimes,

I [believe] the SES code(s) in question is either 1) DME - P0171 Mixture control or 2) DME - P0234 Charge-air pressure, Compressor

I believe the DT BPV is allowing boost to come on too soon, leaning you out and aggrivating that flat spot inherent in many of these cars.

The lean condition, although not likely to cause engine damage, comes on usually when you are just part throttle accelerating too I bet...

EXACTLY!

So, will I only be able to run the stock BPV with my particular car?

Hey Doug, sorry to hear about your troubles. If I where you I would keep the DPV on and get your car tunned by Emil. My car is running great and I have gained 35whp since you were last in it. The tune is everything.
Mario
