Torque loss first: Off boost, the engine needs x amount of backpressure to build torque. In the abscence of enough back pressure some (minimal) amount of torque can be lost. In most cases this can be compensated for in other ways.

R56-S: The new pods for the R56 are injection molded plastic and made domestically out of our building. We are finalizing all the little details and nuances before releasing the product. Expect to see the how-to in "howard" my R56 shortly before the parts are released. MY PERSONAL apologies for the delay.

Thanks again folks!

Howard is DOA at my house. I got the speaker box back from the mfr. and now have to do some fabbing etc. for the amp racks etc. I hope to have it back to the office and on the dyno this week. Sorry for the delay!

Also, heard the final gauge pods will be in this week from the plastic dude.

Stay tuned folks!

No apologies necessary. ALTA has been first to market with so many R56 products it's amazing. My CAI just arrived yesterday. I'm hoping to have enough daylight to get it on tonight. We'll see what all the fuss is about

Thanks for all the support!

Yo Adam!
It was nice to meet you last weekend at the PDX MINI/GPI/Alta Tech Day!
Just wanted to say I've been a happy camper with the Alta gear thats been installed on my ride and look forward to more additions down the road (yes even that downpipe)!

One thing I forgot to do was get a feel of Howard with his H&R Sport Springs. I'm still curious about that.

Oh crap! I didn't even think about it. I should have given you a ride before I left. Since Howard was on the hoist showing off his underpanties, he wasn't very available. But had I known we could have gone a lap before I left. I can tell you that they ride REALLY well on or off freeway.

Let me know if I can help further. Thanks again for coming out. It was nice to meet you as well!

Eh no worries Maybe sometime when I have a free weekend we can meet up in the P-Town area and you can give me a quick spin in Howard.

ADAM:

Any impressions of how Howard rides on the H & R lowering springs, for us who are far away to meet with you? I had a Lowered car before with H & R springs, and the ride was bumpy. I am tempted to lower the Mini, it looks really good lowered, but i don't want to have a bumpy stiff ride that i had before, and I actually wasn't able to drive fast with the car, because it would jump all over the place.

I've seen MINI on a list of gay cars, but that comment set off an alarm....

Just kidding! I'm an equal opportunity driver. And if anything MINIs are chick magnets. My ex girlfriend is the only person I've met that doesn't like Minis. She drove a Le Sabre to give you an idea of poor taste.

On another topic, when I was putting on my (Alta) swaybar, I noticed the gas tank straddles the exhaust. Does that seem a little strange to anyone else?

Jas.

Sounds like a great idea... I'm sure your ex-girlfriend would approve.

SEAL6: No problem! Call me prior to be sure he is ready to show off!

byhsu: Not a clue on the other car what the issue was/is (I have used H&R on nearly all of my cars including previous NSX, Porsche, M3, Civic, Integra, Escalade, Subaru, etc, etc. and always had good results. If you need help with the other car let me know!) but I can say the ride quality is superb with them on this car. I do a 25 mile freeway/side street commute everyday and the ride is not punishing or uncontrolled. I do NOT have the OEM sport suspension on Howard and the damping still seems very well matched with the lowered stance. I was previously going to immediately go to coilovers, and now I think I am going to just stay with the springs. You will love em!

jascooper: Lots of mfr's do the straddle tanks. In most cases there is a pusher pump to transfer the fuel from one side to the other. The second side has the fuel level sender incorporated into it.

rattmobbins: If you change careers let me know!

scott48: Working on soem designs as we speak. No release date yet or qualifications to get them either. But in the works.

ALTA:

So would you say the lowered suspension, basically just lowered the car, but the damping stayed the same as in stock form? I also didn't order the MCS with the sport suspension, as I found it a little too stiff for my tastes.

Do you do installations at all at the shop? Suspension parts or exhaust?

This is an interesting observation because, like Howard, Nigel does NOT have the Sport Suspension and I have been trying to find the most cost effective way to lower him without sacrificing day to day ride and comfort. The issue is that, the majority of posts addressing the installation of lowering springs IMPLY that the sport suspension with its included struts/dampers would be necessary if someone wanted to buy ONLY lowering springs instead of coilovers.

Scott, If I go for the JCW engine tuning kit, I'd be happy to sell you the badges. I heard they're about $200 from MINI. I'd probably let them go for 1/2 that. Gotta be good for a few HP.

Anyone do a dyno run before and after installing the badges?

I actually have a JCW exterior badge as well that I actually got for free.....but definitely want an Alta one since all my engine performance upgrades are and will be from Alta.

Sorry for any confusion. I have the H&R Sports on my personal R56, and the non-sport suspension. The springs are well matched to the damping of those struts. They pair well.
