And may I ask how does it sound and how hard was it to put on? This is going to be my first mod followed by several others early next year.

Piece of cake to install. No faults created by the MAF sensor (as suggested would occurr by some). Not overly obvious until you get on it, so not annoying just putting around town.

You'll hear it vent to atmosphere off throttle at higher RPMs (when there's more boost built up, of course) and if you're pushing it hard enough for the traction control to kick in (and retard ignition). Otherwise it adds a little dose of charecter to an engine that needs it. A good airbox/intake is a nice compliment, too. I hear a lot more of the turbo whine after the JCW kit was installed. Very nice. Alta boost and turbo inlet tubes are next.

Performance gains are questionable. Basic turbo theory suggests that less hot air being recirculated into the intake track is a good thing... but I'm 99.9% sure you'd never be able to measure any real gain in power.

Sounds like this (not my video, but accurate enough):

For those who have it does it do what they say? Can you feel the difference in acceleration?

If you're looking for the turbo sound and increased performance you may want to look into a CAI if you haven't already. I have the ALTA CAI and I took out the scoop insert and there is a considerable amount of turbo noise going on (with enough power to back it!)

I know a lot of the mk5 vw guys have had problems with their diaphrams in their dv's ripping. I think I'll just hold off until the full blow off valve comes out. I'd hate to spend just as much money on an oem diaphram as a full forge bov or dv. Forge developed one for the mk5's and I posted a few times on vw forums and talked the one of the guys at h2o international (a vw show) and I think I'm annoying them. hah. Well I imagine they're "in development."

Bov won't really give you an increase in power. It's just to prevent compressor surge.

It makes a little noise, like they say...

...difference in acceleration? Ahhhh, no. No difference.

+1. The BOV is just a sound maker.

very easy, just have to unscrew three bolts. Its tough getting them loose because of all the engine stuff in the way but other then that its very simple

question: i installed the forge blow off using the instructions from the Forge website, on the last picture the blow off has the inner tube facing out. Is this how its supposed to be installed? When I put mine in I placed the blow off with the inner tube facing in so its like: pipe <-- blow off <-- solenoid.

http://www.forgemotorsport.com/media/FMDVMCS.pdf

Thanks

As I take a close look at that last pick and scavenge my memory... I would say that yes, you are correct! That last pick in the Forge instructions looks like it's on backwards . Otherwise, how would the solonoid fit/attach to the ataptor with the screws provided... and how would it form a seal with the turbo?

Again, I'm going from memory, but I believe you are correct in questioning the pic.

By recirculating the hot air back into the intake side of a turbo the temperatures increase. This is where the Blow Off or Dump valve plays its part. By expelling the charge air to atmosphere rather than recirculating it, you do not increase the intake air temperature but you do allow the turbo to keep spinning. The side effect which is unacceptable to most vehicle manufacturers is the noise of the valve expelling the air. By fitting the FMDVMCS between the existing solenoid and the turbo housing (this involves removing only 3 bolts) the air is re-directed to atmosphere rather than recirculated.

I installed one! It is a nice piece, and sounds sweet. The install was pretty easy! Only thing I can say is the engine is "tight quarters!"
