Thoughts on Minspeed Resonator Eliminator kit
I was browsing the Minspeed website the other day, and I noticed this http://www.minspeed.net/R56PBK.htm
I am looking at the Res. Eliminator setup and not the filter and tips.
Has anybody hooked this up yet? What are your thoughts on this?
Thanks,
Scott.

The pipe is designed to keep your stock pipe ROUND so you can put the resonator back if you want to. Its also designed as a slip on so you don;t have to weld it in place this facilitates do-it-yourself.
BUT you are right you might just get the Pep Boy guy to do a decent job for VERY CHEAP.

I think some of the regulars on the Florida regional site (sunshineminis.org) have this installed (Minspeed is based in Pompano Beach, FL) so you may want to post a question there. I'll second Engine 58--Pete@Minspeed is great guy, and doesn't sell products he doesn't believe in.

I just saw Peter this morning. The pipe allows for easy do it yourself - cut out resonator, slide pipe over ends & clamp up - your done.
He made it a kit by adding the ITG filter for a little more performance to compliment the free flow exhaust and a set of sexy new tips to compliment the new sound.
For those interested - give peter a call, he is a lot of fun to talk too for he is an enthusiast.

You could just buy one from Minspeed or you could put in the same development effort as Peter did and have one made for you.

The stock unit is clamped in and royal pita to get out. It has no effect on emssions/smog, just a noise damper. I honestly would not replace the stock unit with a pipe splice, I would replace it with a proper hose. Much easier to install and you only have to deal with two clamps in easier to get to locations.

wow, ive said it before and i'll say it again. Go to a muffler shop and have them weld in a pipe. I had my entire magnaflow catback parts and labor installed for 350 OTD with 3 inch piping. I would imagine they would charge well under 50 to just have a pipe welded in place of the stock silencer.

You guys were right, I bought the MINSPEED pipe as I thought it would be a 1/2 hour job with my recip saw and air tools and save a morning at the muffler shop. The quality of the parts were good but the dimensions were off. The ID of the expanded ends of the straight pipe was 3mm (per my digital calipers) larger in diameter than the OD of the original pipe. This is a little shy of 1/8 inch so quite a loose fit. The band type clamps that came with the pipe were very high quality but couldn't clamp the pipe adequately. After a trip to AutoZone for muffler assembly paste and a couple of 2.25 inch yankee style muffler clamps it's back on the road. Time will tell if this will hold adequately in the long haul so may wind up at that muffler shop to get the joints to the original pipe welded. I do like the change in sound, not a great increase in volume but a better "throatier" note to it. So all in all given what proper exhaust systems cost, this $100 mod is OK but turned out to be more than a 1/2 hour deal. With the time spent a guy could go to a muffler shop, have it made, welded and gone in probably less time and $.
