Strange part about that one is he is selling it while it needs repairs .

It's JUST a valve seal. Either way the motor could be junk and 20K is a pretty decent deal.

Hey hey now. I'm not saying anything bad about the car. It's one of the best looking Mini's I have ever seen. I just thought it was strange knowing that the owner is a mini tech. It should be an easy fix for him and would definitely help him sell it.

No more said.

Nope, I'm pretty sure you were saying that he despises MINI's and that he feels inferior while driving it, thus constituting the minimal mileage but we all know that you meant he is tired of tearing the engine down every 200 miles to replace the valvetrain & lower bearings and has given up the good fight and his mother has webbed feet.

yup that is what I took from your post...

Tore it all apart tonite. Here is the lowdown....
All rod bearings are shot.

Cylinder #4 piston is shot, all others are fine.

All rod lobes on the crank look like this. The crank will need turned, hopefully it will still be within spec. The main lobes where all ok but you can see they were just starting to wear.

Cylinder #4 doesnt look bad. .020 over bore should be fine, but will know for sure when I take it to be machined.

I forget exactly...

I remember him telling me last time I saw him this summer, that he moved it out of the garage for like the first time in a year....only to sweep the garage out underneath it

Cole you and your MINI look great, but man oh man that sucks to have lost your oil pressure in such fashion. Are you going after Moss to recoup some of the rebuild parts and machining costs?

That is messed up... Are you going to check cam bearings and camshaft? Do these motors have heads like bike motors where the bearings are just part of the head?

I havent tore into the head yet, but it appears ok, and yes the bearing are part of the head...so if its scored its junk....which would really tick me off, as it is a RMW head with a few options...

New News.....

My spare engine to the rescue. I tore the RMW head apart to check for wear on the bearings, all good. I popped that on the OEM spare block and I am now back up and rolling. I will rebuild the other block in my spare time, but for now I have a drivable car that runs great at 21psi. Pulls hard and drives nice sans EvIl oil cooler. Ran about 200 miles in one day on her and I am happy.

Glad you're rolling again Cole! Stock pistons/rods/crank then?

Yes stock rods & pistons. I ran 27psi on this block while twincharged and it took it. I am only running 21psi right now, so I am hoping it can handle it for a while. I just needed it running so I can free up some space in the shop for other jobs.

I will have to shoot some more vidz when I have a passenger to shoot it!

But of course, just didn't think anyone cared....

I decided to run the Bytetronik tuning software and ditch the AFC. I changed out the resize OEM injectors for real 550cc. It runs 100 times better and I can tweak and log to my hearts content. I scheduled some dyno time for the 8th of April to concentrate on nailing some things down. The car no longer goes into limp mode and i can go wot off a shift. The only issue is highway cruising I run way to hot of egt, so I need to sort that out yet, but wot is OK.

I am still running the stock block since I don't have a few spare grand that i can spare to rebuild the other block, but soon.

Lol what do you mean? You do know almost all of the turbo Minis come out of Cali right? I am the outcast when it comes to turbo conversions , lol

Thanks all the same though!

uh-oh... well i was under the impression that an aftermarket turbo isn't carb approved... and my car is a dd. oh no, now im gonna have to start saving.... i guess i should do some other things first! hahaha. but if a header is illegal here, then i swear a turbo would be too because it means you obviously have to use an aftermarket header

They are trickled all around the country, and the world.. Congrats on your build. How's the datalogging coming? ByteTroniK is great to allow you to see whats going on when it happens on the stock ECU.
