JCW brakes Vs. R84 X-lite wheels

Hello!

In some days I'll install JCW brake kit to my MCS R53
But after reading OutMotoring I expect some problems with such install:

Fits the following wheels without any spacers:

R85 17" S-Lite Wheel
R87 16" Double Spoke Wheel
R90 17" Two Piece Cross Spoke Wheel
R91 17" 5-Star Bullet Wheel
R95 18" John Cooper Works Wheel
R98 17" Web Spoke Wheel
R99 17" Double Spoke Wheel
I have R84 X-lite (aka Monza, V-spoke) ET48
In JCW catalog is also written, that such brakes will fit SOME 16 inch original wheels.

Anybody here knows something about compatibility? Spacers will solve my problem?

MINI does not officially approve of using X-Lite wheels with JCW brakes, but it has been done successfully. There may be enough manufacturing variance in individual cars and wheels that it could be an issue. Here they are on a GP, with no spacers.

they will fit but you will have clearance issues with wheel weights. i have the same wheels and have done alot of looking to find the correct answer here. most people ive talked to ( not many have JCW brakes on 16" x-lites ) shave the wheel weights other wise you can scuff the paint off the caliper.
BTW RKW, looking good

You could just have the weights mounted closer to the inside of the wheel.

The wheel that your looking for is the R-94 Bridge Spoke 16x6.5 ET 48 @20.9 lbs.
It's 3.3 lbs heavier than the x-lites and approved for the JCW brakes.

Hope this helps...

The USA version of GP has regular seats because weight sensors are required for the airbags.

Wish it were mine! See the link... it belonged to Jim Ray & AprilWhine (I believe they have since sold it).

That may not be the best idea. by moving the weight inside of the rim further you are not really truly balancing and are approaching a static balance which is garbage. a static balance means that the wheel is balanced when not in motion ( like the old style bubble balancing ), a dynamic balance is the best balance for a rim/tire in motion and becomes more and more important the wider the wheel is.
static balancing can result in 1st order vibrations which isnt a fun rife at all unless you stick to city driving.
by shaving the wheel weights ( i know its a PITA ) but you get a much better ride and a truer balance.

GP0019

Thats funny, the same GP0019 moved to California and kept the GP wheel on no problems at all. Temporary, move to Philly, PA and first thing I got a set of 17s. East Coast not as considerate to road upkeep, especially PA, as California is.

Bringing this thread back from the dead to help future searches, because it took me forever to find a definitive answer. R84 X-lite wheels will fit over JCW brakes on the R53. Here are some pics. There is about a penny's thickness of clearance between the caliper and the wheel weight.

Funny, done that way for a LONG (80+ years) time, on larger, heavier tire combinations and worked just fine at speeds well over 200mph !

It is good that you clarified, but it was answered 05-19-2008, 03:26 AM with the picture of that GP sitting on X-lites

Definitely got to watch those weights...that would make me very worried.
