My ALTA 3in CATBACK Then and NOW....FINALLY

SO finally after months of driving my exhaust sounds the way I always wanted it to sound....DEEP! I did not change anything, but it is definetly ALOT more deeper. It would be cool to have it like that out of the box.

AS IT SOUNDS TODAY. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3gAHKYAQ7F0

SOUNDS GREAT! I do miss the pop spit and burble of the R53, but I like your sound!

Do you think it was just time that made the difference?

Thats the million dollar question. I dont have a clue abu. You know I doubt this has anything to do with it but I have a tendency to spray a lot of cold water up the hot exhaust, much like the old glass packs. I truily doubt this would have any bearing on sound, (concerning this system) but then again out of 20 or 30 exhausts Ive done....this is the first one that ever changed this much interms of sound.
If anyone is wondering, this is the R56 ALTA CATBACK, no Downpipe.

i think u would get more popping if you had the alta downpipe, a result of more unrestricted flow throughout the system, but never as much as the r53. could be wrong though

that does sound nice indeed... but a few pops wouldn't hurt, especially in the upper rpm range

The longer you drive on most exhaust, they get a little louder. In my z3 I have a magnaflow, and at first it was quiet, but now it purrs just perfect.

Spend the $800 for the turboback and you'll be even happier though!

Yup I agree with this. I had an Eisenmann exhaust on my A4 and it was almost quieter than stock when I put it on. I was soooo mad, especially since it was a $1k exhaust. However, as time went on, it got much louder and sounded heavenly!

my magnaflow sounded great from the get go but it definitely does sound better after a couple thousand miles.

ive also noticed the exhaust sounds different after its all warmed up.

I am waiting for my Cat Back Exhaust from Alta (on back order), but it's going to be worth the wait. I really like the sound after it has some miles on it. By the way how many miles did you put on you MINI before you noticed the improved sound? I didn't spend the extra $ on the downpipe. I will eventually but for now that was enough $ spent.

Adam, I should be receiving my Alta CAI and PNP today so I may be more impatient for that exhaust as I've gotta wait for it before I install the PNP. Patience is a virtue but come on Cat Back

Why do you have to wait for the exhaust before installing the PNP?

the tune I specified is for the Alta CAI and the Alta Cat Back, maybe I don't. How about it Adam, is it okay to install the PNP prior to the Cat Back exhaust installation?

matty125,
thanks for info, I'll check it out. The downpipe has to wait for now, I'll wait on other mods until next year (FMIC is next on my wish list). Gotta keep my wife happy
