Boost Gauge Install

Has anyone successfully tapped boost on the R56?

Where have you tapped it from, are there any guides etc? I am looking to fit a BG and have no idea where to start!

Thanks for any help
Nick

I installed a boost gauge from ALTA. They supply an adapter for the MAP sensor to connect the tubing. It is a fairly easy installation depending on the lighting scheme you'd prefer and if you want to set it up to change the lighting options by swapping around wires. Mechanically, it is a piece of cake to install.

Thats what I'm after really, the mechanical side of things...
I believe it connects to the MAP sensor but where do I find that? And how do I connect to it etc?

Thinking about it too... so only some wires need to come through the firewall and be routed to the gauge?

Boost Gauge Install

List of materials you will need.
1x R56 Vacuum adapter (Alta)
1x Gauge Pod (Alta)
1x Boost Gauge (Stewart Warner...because it matches OEM gauges)
1x Orange LED (only if you go with the Stewart Warner to match the lighting)

If you have any questions feel free to ask!

Thanks for the reply, but I really need help on HOW to fit it rather than what I need to fit I intend on buying the Alta kit so hopefully all the necessary bits will come with that. Its the bit after I get it all out of the packaging that I am stuck with. If anyone has a sort of step by step guide thats what I am after?

Thanks again

Ditto what SimpsonGI said. The tapping of the boost is easy....got to remove the airbox and it's right there. The hard part for me was the wiper removal to get the black wiper tray out to get to the wirebundle for the pass-thru into the car. Of course the contortions required to fish the wires weren't easy for an old guy either.

I did the Alta boost and water temp and they're very helpful if you run into a problem.

That Stewart Warner boost looks great ....much closer to OEM than the Alta.

Wiper removal has a little trick that most people do not seem to realize. The wiper arm is held on by the wiper spring slightly twisting the mount relative to the shaft. If you fold the wiper partially up in the air, and depress the mount forwards, ie: counter the twist of the spring. It will slide straight up off the shaft. Remember to mark the position first. The idea is to get the wiper arm perpendicular to the shaft, then it slides up easy.

If you're planning on buying the alta kit, it comes with pretty detailed instructions (pics and everything).
