I second that... I have the 15% pulley on my auto - knowing what I know now, if I had it to do again, I'd go 17%... for exactly that reason... on a MCSa street car, you don't spend much time near redline, so the downsides of the smaller pulleys (heat, overdriving water pump) aren't likely to impact you.

Or a happy medium of the M7 16% pulley... Be sure to get a shorter belt as well.

Be aware: changing the pulley and belt increases your overall maintenance cost. I think it's a good idea to change the belt every 15k miles after adding a smaller pulley. A smaller pulley might also have warranty implications, should you still be in warranty, but there are lots of other threads here on NAM where they beat that dead horse, so I'll just mention it and leave it there.

Guess it's time to change my belt, since I have about 30,000 hard miles on it...

ide sya a 15% pully, with a CAI and exhaust (in that order) will give the biggest bang for your buck with "seat off the pants" feeling of the mods!

A pulley is going to be pretty cheap, and a used intake can be found for under $100 if your patient. The combination of those two will leave you with a DD with some more go but not so much that you have to spend money on other things to keep the car balanced.

- Rear swaybar
- Air intake (for the s/c whine, it's so addictive!):-P

Since someone brought up mileage after 20 month with my MINI I have 40,987 miles so warranty is not an issue. BlimeyCabrio nice job on your mileage it is fun to drive.

I really do appreciate all the advice on this issue, as I was not 100% sure what modd to get completed first.

Of this list, the air intake is a fairly simple mod to do in your garage with hand tools.

The rear swaybar is a bit more complicated, but not off-limits to someone who is moderately handy with a wrench (search "how-to video rear swaybar" for a thread with video of how to do the work). I'd recommend these two first because they are simpler to do.

The pulley requires a bit of mechanical knowledge (or a lot of bravery) to do on your own. I paid to have that one done, so it might wait until you already have the car in the shop for some other reason, though it's going to give you a very noticeable boost in HP... much more than the air intake, though the air intake will definately facilitate the boost generated by the pulley, so it's not a bad idea to do the intake before the pulley anyway.

the only reason that the exhaust should be considered instead of the rear sway bar is, If you put a 15%pully, the engine is now sucking in more air. Which of course means more power, same with the CAI. Now if your engine is sucking in more air, it needs to let more out. So if you stopped at those two mods then went to a suspension mod, you would not get a full benifit of what you just did. now if you continued with the same performance theme, the exhaust will expell more gasses quicker. which means you heve the engine as a whole now working together.

If the exhaust is too much for your budget there is always the "one ball", its almost just as good as a having a full cat-back.. (may have already been mentioned).

I've got the Miltek exh and I rel happy with it. Not too loud and GREAT Performance!
