ALTA Filter JCW replacement..& How to:

This is a ALTA filter JCW replacement it is a nice product for who has JCW air box. I don't know how much HP do you gain from it exactly. I will let you with the pictures.

How to:
1- remove the JCW cover.

2- Remove the air hose at the corner of the airbox.

3- remove the electric connetion

4- This is my old Mini-madness filter used 4000 miles.

5- remove the filter & install the new one.
6- The filter comes oily you can install it direct. note: Do not tighten the clamp too much, tighten it loosely or the filter will slip off, Becareful. Also clean it from inside the oil.

Note: reconnect the air hose at the corner of the airbox and the electric connection.

ENJOY, Luys

Are you concerned at all with the foam resting on that piece of plastic?

I have put extra plastic but inside the foam there are servile plastics which you can concern on it.

It looks like where that plastic piece makes contact with the filter is a wear point. Even a slight vibration where they meet will cause a hole in that foam eventually...

Is this how they all fit ALTA reps? Can that plastic piece be removed? What is your suggestion?

If I remove the plastic it will be risky it might slip off. The pice of plastic in 5th pic is soft to the foam it wont hurt the filter. As I said for more safe in the 2nd thread you can put a small thing that doesn't touch the filter and don't hurt it.

Nope the plastic comes off. The filter is made to stay on with out it. The plastic is ONLY there because the stock filter doesn't clamp to the box. This is step 5 in the instructions. I know, who needs the instructions for a simple part! I would do the same.

IF you filter did come off with the bracket removed, i would clean off more of the oil on the inside of it. Hope that helps!

I have thought about the plastic but I have put it for more safe also I cleaned inside the filter from oil.

No problem, but just keep in mind that it wasn't meant to stay. It shouldn't cause any issues leaving it, but it hasn't been necessary in our testing.

Neither has a shorter belt for a 15% pulley.

Zing!

How were you able to remove the lid without removing the entire box? I have to first remove the ECU and then the entire box to remove the lid from the box (as per the shop manual). The rear lid screws are not accessible while the box is still installed.

Which lid are you talking about, is it in the 3rd picture?

The lid I'm talking about is the top half of the airbox that the filter attaches to. Cracking open the airbox requires its complete removal on my car because the rear screws are hidden under the plastic cowling vent box.

I've taken off the top lid several times and have never had to remove the whole airbox. The instructions above are correct

Luys,

I have the Mini Madness filter and have taken it out once for cleaning. So far, so good. Did you notice any difference going to the Alta?

It is difficult to feel difference between two filters. On the other hand it is easier to clean and better than the paper one

Thanks for the reply Luys! Appreciated. I just noticed I posted on a topic that was buried for 2 years.

I think I'll just stick to my Alta JCW replacement filter. I'm gonna do the "JCW-CAI-remove-the-flap-mod" tomrow and see how the Alta filter is holding up after about 1,5years now.

The ALTA foam filter will make a small difference. Foam filters will flow more air than paper filters once they get dirty. Plus they're reusable! For a huge writeup on our filters, check out this link.
