Charlie gets Dyno'd and Tracked!

Hey there again This weekend was a very busy weekend for me. After putting on
-Alta Intake
-Alta Turbo Inlet Hose
-Alta Boost Tubes
-Alta Intercooler
-3" Magnaflow Catback Exhaust (Too broke for downpipe lol)
-Alta PnP ECU (the magic part)

I was able to take the car to a dyno and also at the 1/8 track!
At the dyno I did notice my AFR running dangerously lean which causes detonation and there is still power to be made ! I am also hoping to be able to switch out my runflats for some nice grippy tires to make up for not having LSD BTW I have a 6 spd.

Just Kidding that ones my brother's truck (Before his last retune its 415whp/481wtq now) which will be on the cover of next month's Import Tuner magazine . Mine is:

227.9 whp/ 271.1 wtq
Look at those AFR ratios
Sorry for the light coloring on the sheet

And this is one of the timeslips from the track night against my brother . I am the left one but I believe I ran a 9.3 but coulnt find the sheet .

WOW, that looks pretty good. Hard to believe that those numbers are attainable with just some minor bolt-ons considering the car starts it's life with 172bhp.

What kind of truck does your brother have? Import Tuner with a truck?

Yea the number of increase in torque is an incredible gain, my brother's truck is a twin turbo Toyota X-Runner. I was also when he told me he has a photoshoot and interview with Import Tuner on Friday since they mostly do cars.

Obviusly the car dosn't come even close to those numbers... a R56 without remap can't go over 185 hp, and I don't mean whp...

To be sure about how fast your car is, try to do a 50-90 kph acceleration in 2nd gear and 90-130 in 3rd.

Sorry for the missing translation but here is a list of acceleration times:

- 2"00 50-90

Just curious, how much did all those mods roughly cost you in total?

That sounds crazy. What's an X-Runner? A 2WD Tacoma?

10.5:1 compression ratio, probably 21psi of boost, and lean as hell A:F's....

Better be careful my friend. And yes, I know its a "Direct injection motor so it runs leaner than a port injected motor," but I'm not convinced that leaner than stoich ratios at 5k are ok.

Another reason why I'm not a believer in the UniChip tune and am waiting for a proper way for someone to dyno tune this ECU. You got great numbers, and I'm sure its fun, but I'll wait.

lean != untapped potential. be very careful...lean is how motors are blown.

Thanks and that is one the reasons why I took out my unichip, I am going to see if Alta can do anything about the AFR and also have a problem with cold-start with the unichip. Reliability always comes before power =)

so, to recap - you made some big numbers but it wasn't safe so you pulled the piggyback and posted here to brag about the results (after lowering them to a safe point)?

I have had the ECU in for around 3 months but I never realized how lean it ran. After dynoing it I disconnected the unichip, if it didnt run so lean I would have left it. I also wanted to show the numbers of a dyno with all the alta accessories minus the downpipe to let everyknow know what kind of gains/ unsafely lean AFR to expect.

forgive me, it appears you were stating that lean AFR's meant there was more power to be made. well, not appears, you said just that.

Well your right about that, but to me lean= possible detonation off the top of my head so I forgot to say it sorry. Well most of us know what happens when it runs too lean. . Although I did it for the numbers/ how reliable it would be/ speed so its a roundabout of everything. I am not trying to brag because we dont drive Hondas, j/k I just thought I'd share that since before I did the mods I couldnt find a dyno sheet with all the Alta accessories only the one Alta did so this is for people who had the same curiousity as I did.

I will be calling Alta tomorrow and letting them know that this is my 2nd ECU (the first one had CEL problems) and if the next one has problems I would hate to get rid of it.

Just remember, BHP from the manufacturer is crank HP not WHP on the ground...I'd pull maybe 10-20% from the car's numbers by the time you get through all the bells and whistles in the engine...figure 145whp maybe-ish?

mazda claimed 150ish numbers...they actually come in at around 125-135ish...from all the dynos i've seen

^^^ that is very true on most cars. Crank HP is nearly always higher than whp. (theres a good episode of Top Gear where they dyno a brand new Shelby Mustang that was rated for 500hp and actually only pushed 450-ish)

BUT... in my experience on nam and talking to other mini owners, the r56 is very underrated and actually dynos very close to crank HP and in some rare cases even slightly OVER the 172hp.

Well, i just don't trust at all the rolling road, acceleration times is the only way to know how fast a car is.
