Is my exhaust leaking?

I went to look at my car at the shop today while all it's goodies are being fitted on.

I noticed on only the rear half section of the exhaust system that there is some black soot. Do you think it is leaking from this bracket? I asked the mechanic and he says it's normal, but then it should be on the entire exhaust and not just the rear half?

Also notice where it splits to the 2 mufflers. Only the one side has the black soot, I think it may be leaking from the weld?

There is a slight leak. Water will mix with the exhaust soot in the pipe and leak out when the exhaust is cold. If it is a small leak, it will seal up when the exhaust gets hot and the metal expands. It normally is not a problem. Only a problem if there is a big leak that will not seal when hot. From your pictures, yours looks normal.
