R56 DYNO

Simple question; looking for a simple answer.

What drive gear is the best gear to DYNO the R56?

I have heard that third is the best gear to use for an R56. But I am not a pro.

I've always heard 4th.

Does it matter alot? The dyno should take into account the gear ratio based on rpm and mph.

4th....

3rd can be used...but 4th is best

We do our pulls in 3rd gear for the R56 automatics, 4th gear for the R53/R56 and others that are manual.

The automatics hold better in 3rd gear for pulls, easier to avoid overboost and lose the run.

Typically pulls are done in the ~1:1 ratio [not including final drive ratio]. Thus, MINI pulls are done in 4th gear. Pulls done in 3rd will usually result in a lower torque measurement. The most important thing is the before and after dyno pulls are done on the same dyno in the same gear with the same engine temps [coolant & intake] to get the dyno itself as transparent as possible in the delta. Comparing dyno graphs between cars on different dynos, even the same brand dyno, is virtually moot except for bragging rights and entertainment.

x2, the idea is that you need to have as close to a "direct drive" ratio gear as you can which is fourth, b/c if you run it in fifth or third or even second itll mess with your numbers crazily
