Sport button retrofit
Hi there,
I have a MCS r56 (12/2006) and dont have the sport button.
Can it be fitted now ? i mean i need just the switch to activate it(is it already on the ecu but just needs a switch?) or a reprogramming of the ECU or it cant be fitted at all ? Anyone has done it before or can share some info please ?
Regards,
Pavlos

All U.S. spec R56s have the sport button. www.MINI2.com, a European MINI forum, might be able to help you better.

as a point of reference: the old 01-02 BMW M Coupes with S54 engine from the E46 M3 did not come with the sport button. However, several knowledgeable people retrofit it and it works like it does in the M3. with no programming necessary.
the only big problem i see is that you need to figure out which pins on the ecu are tied to the sport button and the rest should be just wiring to the button itself.

I am sorry to post without an answer for you, but I just wanted to mention that this car is my daily driver that I also track/autocross regularly, and never use the sport button. It makes the throttle too sensitive for optimal performance.
In case you aren't able to figure out how to retrofit it, perhaps this will help you will feel a little better about it.
This is all assuming you have a manual transmission. It would really be lousy if you didn't have sport mode with the automatic due to how it changes shift points.
