Drivetrain Defenders of Speed Vs DDMWorks

So, I'm sure someone would have posted something if this were a problem, but, my paranoid side just has to ask; just like everyone asked about the alta intake. Full throttle in a torrential downpour, any remote chance of water ingestion? As small as it is, that turbo still sucks in a lot of air.
Please put my mind at ease so I can go back to drooling and trying to justify buying another intake and trying to sell my current one.

Since the hood conceals the cowl vents, and the elbow is another opportunity for water to exit the cone, the chance of a significant amount of water entering the intake is practically nil. Driving full throttle in a torrential rainstorm would further reduce the remote chance of this happening because the rain would be more cleanly sheeting over the car, (but I would not advise it ).
However, for those of you who live in REALLY rainy climates (a' la Seattle/Florida in a hurricane), I'll be putting a membrane vapor barrier/pre filter for the R56 CAI's cone filter up on the DoS site that provides additional peace of mind in the near future.
If you have any other questions about this or anything else, drop me an email.

Though I have never experienced a problem with rain either, I just put the vapor barriers up on the site for those who are interested.

Is there any way someone can post a video of the DoS intake in action. It is supposed to have a unique and awesome and loud sound from what I hear, but, what does that sound like? I highly doubt it would be too loud for me, but, I would like to get an idea. I won't ask anyone to go out of their way to make one, but, if you have one that you haven't posted yet or something like that, I would be really grateful to hear your intake.
I am really considering picking one up, but, I would really like to hear it. Thanks for anything that is provided.

Now Playing on YouTube . . .
I just posted some in-car video of the DoS CAI (w/no baffle) in between helping with Thanksgiving dinner. (Family time is generally fantastic, but I needed a little break.)

The DoS Sound Baffle Works!
So, for all interested parties, I tested the sound baffle (SOAF Unit) on Irmiger's car today.
I decided to go with a passive baffle that uses a split butterfly. This allows the CAI to open the blades of the butterfly as needs demand. The action on the aluminum blades is VERY light, so I think that we're going to have a very hard time showing any quantifiable losses on the dyno in a few weeks.
The blades open near the 3500 RPM range which is perfect for keeping noise down at low RPMs (cruise & city driving). It's created a best of both worlds situation that eliminates the very low and high range frequencies that put-off some folks. The 'iron lung' inhale at low RPMs is gone and it's a very tame sound until you really open it up.
Though I still like the VERY throaty sound of an open intake 'breathing', I realize that DoS needs to think of everyone. I know that there are folks who like our intake but might not necessarily want to have all the feedback offered by an open, cowl fed CAI.
I now need to get some more units made, but they'll be available in the new year (early January). Retail will be $28.00 + shipping and I'll offer a reduced rate to existing customers that want to retrofit this part. Please note that the production units will look more polished than the prototype that you see here.
It has been a long process to get this right, but it's been well worth the results. (I'll take some video in the near future so that you can compare to the stock CAI configuration to the baffled version .)
Feel free to post, PM, or email if you have any questions!

Well I was on the fence and about to get an Alta intake. I had that same reverse cone type CAI that fed from my fender on my old SRT4. That intake made great gains but most important it pulled cooler air from inside the fender.
Great idea and great execution. I'll be ordering one with the baffle as my SO is over my days of fast noisy cars. LOL

DoS CAI In-Town Noise Baffle on YouTube
I just posted some footage of in-town driving with irmiger's car. You can still catch the CAI inhaling a bit, but it's not at all overwhelming.

Defenders of Speed Intake vs DDMWorks Race Intake with Ram Air Scoop
There have been a lot of happy customers with the DoS CAI on this forum. I am really considering that in the future. Excuse the naivety, but I wanted to know if there can be a difference between the performance of the DoS and the DDMWorks Race Intake System.
Both intakes claim to take air from outside the engine bay. The DDMWorks I'm talking about is the one that uses the Ram Air Scoop (utilizes the non-functioning hood scoop).
Anybody have some insight on why the DoS is so much more popular, and possibly, more efficient?
