CATTED DP's and CEL

Is there ANYONE out there with a catted DP and no CEL?

Everyone advertises their catted DP as the next greatest thing and no CEL but I haven't seen a post from anyone that can back that up.

I've got a coated/catted RR DP that's throwing a CEL even with the 02SIM installed with the latest and greatest instructions.

Anyone? Anyone?

I know Exhaust Depot is basically the only catted DP that won't throw a CEL...

But wow, the o2sim doesn't work? What a disappointment

Exhaust Depot's worked great on '07 and '08. There was a minor occurance rate for downpipe CELSs on '09s when the ECU's tolerances were tightened up. Don't get your hopes too high. You should invest in a code reader like a ScanGuage II if you're going into downpipe territory. Believe me, you're going to need it.

It just makes me wonder how ED and RR and the others can/do advertise that their DP will not cause a CEL and they don't make any distinction about that not including 09's or later or anything else.

ED states in it's advertising that they are running it on an 09 Clubbie with no CEL's.

RR doesn't advertise a catless DP on their site now but when they were selling them, they promised (is that the same as a gaurantee?) no CEL but!, if there was one, the 02SIM would correct it.

To their credit, Alta does state that their catted DP "may" cause CEL's and if it does, they will send a possible fix that also may not work. That's honesty.

So, back to my original question, does anyone have one installed and running without getting a CEL as advertised?

I've got an OBDII reader that I've used to clear the CEL's but now, it won't clear and I'm getting a second code as well. That makes two codes with two pending at all times.

The listed price in dollars is actually ~$50 less than the current exchange rate. Quite a bargain!

buying an aftermarket downpipe is about as rewarding an activity as walking in a minefield. I have not tried the latter but have lost an arm and leg with the first.

Pretty much everyone did for that matter, including the Poles who decrypted the enigma machine (which prolly ended the war much sooner than later).

The lack of replies from anyone with a DP and no CEL tells one of two stories.

1) Nobody has a DP (catted or otherwise) on a 2nd Gen MINI that's not throwing a CEL.

2) Nobody with a DP (catted or otherwise) on a 2nd Gen MINI without a CEL reads these forums, cares or is willing to tell the rest of us what their secret is!

I figure all we can do is ask.

There's a thread on the 2nd page with a few people running ED's DP without CELs. They are out driving probably, or don't want to repost info already out there.

If you're asking specifically for 09+, then there probably isn't a good solution.

I think the only problem he had was the downpipe coming loose from the turbo.

I've had my ED DP on my '09 JCW for 16-17K miles. Up until about a month ago, I had never had a CEL.

The CEL had nothing to do with the DP, it was something to do with injector timing... (I forget exactly now)

Point is, if you're worried about CEL's with the ED DP, don't....

Up until about month ago, I was running Exhaust Depot's full exhaust... Downpipe to tailpipe.

Eventually the muffler (resonator) blew through the fiberglass and it started getting too loud.

I kept all the ED exhaust pipe and bought a JCW Stage I exhaust.

Now, I honestly can say I have the PERFECT sounding exhaust system.

No drone, sounds fantastic, best move I've made...

I went to exhaust Depot in Orlando specifically to buy a DP, I almost got one but they had to make it and then mail it to me. Listening to him talk about the catted DP and catless there really wasn't any R&D it was just fabricated a little bit bigger and I think the same materials that are in the stock cat. I did like one thing though that might make me get one anyway is that they started offering the pipes in powder coated. The plus is that it is cheaper and it has better restance to wear. It has similar heat reducing properties to the ceramic coating. I also want to back to them becaus they sold me a JCW exhaust for a $100 installed. Ya they are awesome
