Burning Smell After Hard Acceleration
I noticed in the past few months a faint burning smell (almost like diesel exhaust) after I run my 04 MCS through the gears from 0-75mph. Its ONLY after I get the RPMs up just shy of the redline with 1-3 gears. Its a faint smell, but distinct. I always just thought I was behind a semi or something, but after a roadtrip, I noticed it when I was the only car on the road.
Aside from that, it runs great. Is this normal?

Yup, I notice it if I don't go on the highway for a few days then wind through the gears; if I go through the gears every or every other day it tends to clear it out in small enough quantities that there's not enough for an odor.

that smell
The first time I can say that I noticed That faint yet "positively there" & "new" smell was immediately after putting my first UNDERSIZED s/c pulley on; and it WAS immediately. More pressure , car w/ a few un-assisted miles == that smell . PROPERLY installed an oil catch can (at that time as most of their other stuff I found out;a certain "popular vendors" install instructions were TOTALLY wrong) and VOILA !! GONE !! Just as fast as it had come--I STRONGLY reccomend the purchase (if you do) from one of our NOTABLE "small" vendors. NOT the "Mini wally" You'll be VERY pleased. OBEY

Off topic, but while on this road trip, while trying to pass a semi on a single lane road, my wife accidentally dropped the gear into 2nd instead of 4th!!! Just for a brief 1/2 sec and the revs never got past redline. Scared the sh*t out of me though... We were going around 50mph, maybe less.

Either way, I hit both the fuel cut (7250) and spark cut (8000), was "pleasantly" notified of my error by the engine computer performing aforementioned things, and drove on with some butterflies in my stomach. car didn't seem to run any different after.

Good to know that 2nd goes to 65mph... My wife was driving and my first reaction wasn't to look at the RPMs.. I glanced once I figured out what that sound was, but I never got a good look.

at the risk of redirecting the thread to the OP question...
nope - I do not think that is normal...
I only say this because I have never ever smelled anything odd at any time with my '04 S. Not putting around, not at speed, and not during or after competition.
If I were smelling anything, I would be looking hard for the source of that odor.
Sincerely,
Charlie

Actually, after a hard acceleration, it should be more of a heavy sulfur smell. To compare, you would have to be behind someone else that floored it, or you would have to get behind someone going up a steep hill.
If the clutch were at fault, the smell would be more like really hot baked brakes after decelerating hard.
