Running too lean with Alta IC on R56_S?
Hello all:
I recently installed an Alta IC on my 2008 R56_S. It's fantastic! I can really feel the additional power. However, yesterday (only two weeks after the IC was installed) I started experiencing problem, perhaps, caused by engine running too lean; cold start in the morning sounded like an old diesel tractor. It was running fine right after that. The scangauge II gave me a fault code P0000. In the afternoon (after about eight hours park in the lot), the engine started and died right away. After several attempts to get the engine running, I was able to drive home with maybe 1/2 engine power! The half shaded engine light also appeared on the display. I stopped by StaterBros, about 2 miles from home, to pick up some grocers for the evening. When I left the store for home, the engine started normally, the engine light also disappeared, and I was able to finish my journey home with full engine power. I don't drive it today until I can figure out the real problem. Does anyone out there have similar experience, and know of a solution to this?
Thanks so much.
Jeff

Check the hose connections to the intercooler. They are a b*tch to get on and keep on, because the angle is a bit off. A good tip is to put black tape on the male ends and then put the hose over it.
The intercooler will not cause a lean condition on its own. I had a tube come loose and had to tighten it, but had no codes.
As far as the rattle, there is a known cold start diesling problem with the R56 it is caused by a faulty timming chain tensioner and stops within minutes of warming up. Google R56 timming chain tensioner problems and you should find it.
