Drivetrain The Official ALTA AccessPORT Thread

For those of you that have used your AP as a monitoring tool via the "live data" (or whatever it's called) option where is the option to view coolant temp? I've emailed Chris and he said it's in there but unless I'm overlooking it I just can't find it anywhere. Could it be an acronym? Any help would be great.

I just purchased an accessport from a member here. I went through the update procedures. I noticed the list of maps that are on the unit. There are a bunch of JCW maps and 2 MCS maps. I have a MCS not a JCW. I assume that the maps that are labeled JCW are for that car only. The two MCS maps are:
MCS Stage 1 91 Oct H810B tps.ptm
MCS Stage 1 91 Oct H910B tps.ptm
I am wanting to go stage one for my MCS so I will use one of the above. Anyone know what the difference is between the two.
Are all the other JCW tunes on the unit simply custom tunes he had put on the accessport? Thanks for the information!

Thanks. I just installed in onto the car. There were more MCS files to choose from there. One question though...when I went through the car recognition process, it said my car was a mc it did not say mcs. Then when the maps came up to choose from I chose the MCS Stage 1 map. Any reason why it would not recognize my car as an MCS, or is that normal?
Oh...and yes it is now surely faster.
Also, no auto off? For those that use it as a monitoring device, are you just plugging it in when you want to see and then unplug so that it does not drain the battery?

I was going to suggest plugging it into the car to bring up the correct maps, but I see below you have done it, and were successful.
Congrats!

I think they actually are different versions of the ECU? When I plug the device into my computer I can see a description of the maps. The only difference between the two is one specifically states manual transmission and the other does not say anything about transmission type. If I remember right, one of them was locked and not accessible to me upon install on my car. I could see it on the accessport screen but it was greyed out and said locked. The other 91 octane stage 1 tune was accessible to me. Ironically it was the one that did not specify transmission type???
My first impression is that it make the car way easier to drive. I prefer the hyper sensitive throttle of the sport mode. It is surely faster but not tire shredding faster as some have said. I am not getting any roll on tire spin. From a roll in 1st gear at 2500 rpm, if I plant the throttle it is very quick but no tire spin. I am running the crap run flats too?

the JCW and MCS AP are different from my understanding. You might want to contact ALTA and confirm.
I am stuck in CA and we can only get 91 octane. I agree the car is much quicker on stage 1. I would like even more punch, but right now I am still under warranty, so until that runs out I will stay on stage 1. Can only imagine what stage 3 would be like.
Still a great upgrade and highly recommend the AP

I think you are good to go as well. The AP is just a tool that allows you to flash the ECU as well as monitor things. JCW vs MCS will just be different maps loaded at time of purchase.

jtack,
When you use a used AP, it will show the maps the PO used when you pull up the maps using the AP Manager.
All of the maps are loaded in the AP, but not viewable in the AP Manager, which you found out when you plugged it into your car.
The PO might have been one of the first AP customers before the maps were preloaded, when we had to email them individually, it's hard to say.
It's best when you purchase a used AP to delete any old custom weird maps so they don't get mixed up.

Cool, can you comment on the difference between the MCS Stage 1 91 Oct H810B tps.ptm and MCS Stage 1 91 Oct H910B tps.ptm. When I viewed the description the only difference between the two was the indication of transmission type. One said 6spd manual and the other did not mention anything about the transmission type.

The first step would be to do an update on the AP using the AP Manager. Then plug the AP into your car and do the reflash. Those maps that then pull up when you plug it into your car will be the ones applicable for your car and ECU.

Are all the Alta Accessports the same? Or are there specific APs for the different MINIs?
Example...I'd like to purchase from a specific vendor (they use Bill Me Later as a method of payment), but I don't see an AP for a 2012 MINI Coupe JCW. However they have APs for 2012 R56 S models. Was wondering if that AP would work on the 2012 JCW Coupe.

Scroll down and click the compatibility tab. It will tell you what years and models work with the AP.

Not sure how the bill me later thing works as I just pay for stuff when I want it, but is it a significant savings over buying straight from Alta?

my 09 MCS is not going into open loop fueling under load cause my car to run extremely lean...would buying a acessport alleviate my issues or am I just wasting my time and still have a bigger issue? Or am I just being over cautious and the cars supposed to run this lean? Sorry I previously came from the world of LSXs and subarus lol which this lean of a AFR would mean you now have a huge paperweight.

Wayne,
It actually is normal for the factory tune to run really lean at full throttle for several thousand RPMs! Jeff made a blog post about this a while ago, the ALTA map will for sure solve this problem making the car run a correct AFR when at fully throttle. More info can be found here: http://blog.perrinperformance.com/91...r-mini-is-bad/
