My car is garage kept so I'm not too worried about it but having said that ill probably keep it in the house unless I need it with me on trips. I'm sure it can handle the cold but its not an enexpensive item to replace. Better to be safe than sorry.
Been using my accessport for over a year and love it. I de-installed the software from the mini, and reset the ECU so I could bring the car into the dealer tomorrow. Since I had it un-installed, I figured it was a good time to upgrade the firmware. Bad Idea. No the device is stuck on the "Updating" screen, and the accessport manager can't connect to it. I have sent an email to alta for help, but anyone have ideas? (Not running on a Mac)
I think I read somewhere in this thread that this happens occasionally and I believe the remedy was to unplug it from the computer and try again. Don't quote me on that but I think it was Chris who wrote the post on how to clear the issue. I am running a Mac and have had no problems with the latest firmware update. I think it's just a glitch and whether or not the AP gets hung up is random.

Good to hear, I'll probably keep it in the house too. I don't want to risk anything happening to it and be out of $900. I originally had it un-installed for the last 3 weeks because I knew the Hurricane was gonna hit Jersey and I wanted to conserve as much gas as possible. Now that things have settled, I installed it again last night and was going to just put it back in the glove compartment, but then I started thinking about the upcoming months.

Got an email from Alta this morning, to ring up Cobb. Spoke with Marshal who had me try to connection on another computer with no luck. He is opening a ticket, and I need to return the unit for reprogramming at the factory.
This Question, back to Chris at Alta. I just had the ECU reprogrammed today to reduce the problem with the carbon buildup on the valves and such. The Tech at Mini told me, that the tuning was to adjust the spark or timing, so that more of the "stuff" burned in the proper place. Once I get my get my AccessPort back from Cobb, do you know if it will preserve the new ECU settings for Carbon build-up, or if it will modify them for better performance and negate the mods made by Mini?
rockridge, that sounds weird, there isn't anything with the tune that can be done to make the carbon buildup problem go away. It sounds like the dealer might have been making something up, not sure why they would say that though.
So do you guys plan to ever support the N18? Or are you going to just let the AP die on the vine by not supporting any current MINI models?
Right now we don't have plans on making it compatible, sorry.

The main reason is because of the difficulty of tuning. The MINI is a lot more difficult that most other cars on the market. We have a hard enough time keeping up with custom map requests, CEL issues, etc, to not be able to support AccessTUNER RACE at this time.
