Warranty policy varies from dealer to dealer. I'd call your service advisor and ask about their stance concerning OCCs.

Yeah Clint said it best, just have your MA tell you their circumstances on it. But my buddy has one and they didn't say a word, if that helps.

Just wanted to give an update, its been about a year since I installed the BSH catch can on my 2011 cooper s. I installed it with 11xx miles on it if memory serves and I have 34xxx miles now. I check the can at every fill up and it has never reached the bottom of the dipstick. I drained it for the first time this year yesterday and it was more of the same result as my last post, gross brown liquid smelling very strongly with just a hint of oil in it. I do mostly highway driving and longer drives. I'm in Houston and we have not had much cool weather. I also have a cone filter installed so your mileage may vary.

Seeing the liquid left behind I'm glad I have it but I wouldn't say its a requirement like on the n14.

I'll update when I drain again.

If that is all you have after 33,000 some-odd miles on the N-18, I don't see how it is worth it, at least in warmer climates. I am in SoCal, where cold here is 35 degrees and that is at 2am when I am asleep.

I think this just convinced me the n18 doesn't need it.

I am in Western Washington State, so maybe it would be a good thing.

Thanks for Posting the results, along with photos!

Where under the hood did you put it? The same location as Post # 281?

I have less and I'm in SoCal myself. Have 29k on the clock. I just leave it on cuz I'm too lazy to take it off haha....plus people always ask, what that is?

What the heck is wrong with other way we did in the 70's, vent it into the air cleaner with a pre filter to trap the gunk, I'd rather replace a pre filter and or air filter than have the valves cleaned. Some times KISS applies .

Good to Know.

And I have a questions for the experts. I'm new to MINI not new to motors. But since there is a direct path to valves in the heads from some internal passage, what good would a OCC do since the gases are directly going to the valves and not through the PVC itself ? Or is that PVC hose feeding the passage way to the valves from the crankcase ?

Random update:

Have had my OCC since 10k miles(now at 38k) and I haven't caught anything near what the n14's do.

It's so little that it takes about 30 seconds to get it to drip.

I can confirm that if you live in warmer climate areas....like Southern California, an OCC isn't necessary for N18's.

Will be selling mine.

I'm at 21k miles and I've had a Bsh occ since I got the car... There's basically no oil in there! Seems like a waste in N18s, might sell mine as well

I drained mine for the first time since January and this is what I got out, about 4 ounces of nasty liquid. I also noticed that there was some residue in the intake so I for one am glad the can is there. 61,xxx miles on the car now, the can has been there since 126 miles.

Did you mount it where BSH recommends?
