Here is a site with the Dodge Neon Torque Specs. This is not 100% the same as the mini, but can be used as a refrence.

Thanks

I have tried heads, but not on mine. I've looked at a ported head, as well as a head with a larger valve size, and the cam as well.

Right now, I'm working on two different fronts to develop different stage heads. The issue with headwork is the cost/hp - it isn't justifyable for most folks. THe most I've seen from headwork to this point is about 10hp, at a cost of close to $2000. I'll come up with a port job for under $1000, then a full blown crazy head for almost double that - either of which can use the stock or Schrick cam (two different grinds available). There are some other folks working on good heads as well - but I'm not sure if they want the cat out of the bag.

Who are you working with on the porting?

I cannot wait until those larger valved cooper engines blow up/shatter/fail!

1.8 will be a fun size and will make for a good tragedy!

I cannot wait!

WestCoastCoopers,

I think you might have misunderstood. The larger valve size does not effect the displacement. These cars are still 1.6 liter motors. I agree with you. We have one 1.8L running, but there is almost no wall thickness - the customer is aware of this and just wanted to do it. I give it 20K or so before it blows .

Hope that clears things up!

I was just looking over the BMW/Mini torque specs and they are:
3AZ head bolts to crankcase: Stage 1: 40 Nm; Stage 2: 90 degrees.

this is commonly done: torque to a reading (40 Nm), then turn it another 1/4 turn.

40 Nm alone is seriously under-torqued.

Another:
1 AZ cylinder head cover to cylinder head: stage 1: 6 Nm; stage 2: 12 Nm;

and:
10AZ Hydra mount to body (bolt): 56Nm + 90 degrees; (M10 x 110)
then:
11 AZ Hydra mount to body: 100Nm

and:
(under front axle carrier)
Compliance bush housing to bidy: 59Nm + 90 degrees +/-15 degrees (M10 screw)

weird mix, eh?
