"Hypothetical" Exhaust setup

So I was thinking of an exhaust set up to "hypothetically" Put on my car. If I wasn't currently in Socal I would just do it but the cali cops might get mad. I'm thinking putting my Open down pipe back on that will go to a cutout for racing, then to an magnaflow resonator and muffler or just muffler. Not to sure, I know I couldn't run my straight pipe like i normally do in cali and get away with it so i need a new set up. What do you guys think about that, Any ideas?

Have you ever heard what an open downpipe sounds like on the R56? It doesn't sound good for a street car. When I had a damaged flex section on my exhaust and waited for repair, I drove around with an open downpipe about 3 days. It is loud as hell and does not sound cool at all. Yea you can hear more burbling and throatyness, but overall it sounds like a Civic about to die. Bed this idea and just find a smooth flowing exhaust with a quality made muffler to avoid shaming by the public.

What do you mean> you ran the car with nothing after the down-pipe? or you have a castles down-pipe? I ran my car with a castles dp and on open 2.5 inch pipe for months. Didn't sound to bad at all...once it got warmed up.

I have a catless downpipe. I ran it open with no exhaust for about 3 days. I guess we have differing opinions. I think it gathered lots of looks on the highway and in a bad way.

It is that loud, people gave me looks all the time. It did smell pretty bad, Im trying to figure out if an open downpipe, with a normal exhaust (res/muf) will have any performance gains.
