When is a good time to get a tune??

Hey all!

I have an '08 MCS, and have been thinking seriously about getting it tuned. It is a daily driver for me, and it does a fair amount of long distance driving. The only engine mod for now is my DDM CAI. I was thinking on eventually getting the Forge FMIC or the Tyrolsport FMIC, and maybe an exhaust. Should I save the money to buy these things, then get a tune, or since my car is a daily driver, just get the tune now and save my money? RMW can do the burble now, and I want to get the most out of my little car without going too extreme for driving it every day. I also do not track it, but I am very prone to doing random spirited runs with the local club or just for fun by myself.

Thanks for any ideas! Maybe some of the vendor folks could give me some ideas, as well.

-Johnny

Um..... NOW (is a good time to get a tune)

My two bits: the tune & the FMIC are similar in price (Tune is a bit more - but within a couple hundred dollars). You are going to notice an IMEDIATE improvement in your car's performance with an RMW tune.

The FMIC can add a few more percent to the performance - and is better utilized by the tuned car than a not tuned car. But by itself (no tune) - you would really only notice the difference on hot days or at a track (heat-soak).

So - for the money - get the Tune first. Get an FMIC some time down the road...

Awesome. Thanks for the quick info.

I have been hearing from most people that a tune with mainly stock parts is a waste, but I agree with you. I believe the stock parts can handle the extra oomph of a tune. I also do not want some crazy horsepower machine, but something with a bit more pep.

I have heard lots of folks say good things about the AP. I like the idea of being able to go back to stock if I wanted. Also, I hear the AP can do readouts for things like boost and intake temps. I was gonna buy a ScanGauge soon, but I think the AP would work out fine. I know there are millions of posts on here about the AP, but can anyone give some common HP gains with just an intake?

It's always a good time to do a tune...lol

That said, I'd recommend doing the tune with the IC at the same time. Intake temps get crazy high when running high boost with the stock IC...especially now that summer is coming.

Do yourself a favor and get the IC first...

Here in AZ I'd get IAT's in the 150-160 range during the summer with the stock IC....

I was mistaken. Haha. I guess it cannot be done with the AP. I saw a Youtube video of someone saying a tune from Jan gave them the burble.
