strut reinforcement (anti-mushroom) plates

Does installing these plates require taking off the wheels?

Depends on which type you are using . Ours do not require that .

If they sit on top of the strut tower, it does not require removal of the wheels to install.

For the R56, the issue of mushrooming strut towers is not something we have seen reported much in the forums so I would say that the reimforcement plates would not be necessary.
