CEL with K&N CAI

I know here is already some thread about this, but I wan't to know if there is anyone who lived the same situation.

I just installed a K&N Cold air intake. After 3 starts, a check engine light just appeared. I know there is some issues with the oil of the filter going on the MAF sensor, can it happens so fast ? I checked and I have no leaks in the instalation.

If I have to clean the MAF sensors, how do I remove it without breaking it ?

2008 R56 mcs, K&N CAI installed new, no other mods except mechanical boost gauge.

Thank you

Probably oil, it's why I run a dry AFe filter...

Remove the intake pipe from the MAF (hose clamp), then unbolt the MAF from the airbox (2 torx screws).

Do I spray the MAF Cleaner in the plastic tube to get it on the sensor, or I have to get the sensor out of there ?

Thanks

Well, the MAF is all one unit in that tube, I would not attempt taking it apart. I cannot tell you exactly how to clean it, I've never had to do it on a MINI. But, it should not be very difficult...if you do have oil in there, even a tiny bit, it's gonna be on that wire sensor running across the inside of the tube. I would not attempt rubbing or touching the wire, guaranteed to screw it up permanently. I would just spray the MAF cleaner in there and on the wire, then let it air dry.

But I'm only speaking from experience cleaning MAFs on other cars, I've never cleaned a MINI MAF. I've had it off, and I've looked at it...but have never cleaned it.

I was lucky, I've been to my dealer, finally it was the engine temperature control. Still on guarantee, did not cost me anything. !!!
